Help with decorating of venue!!

Daniela, on December 21, 2013 at 12:21 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 17

I will be having my wedding in the other barn in Columbia, MD. They have very strict rules as far as decorating goes. Nothing can be hung on the walls or taped or anything. Everything we put must be self standing. I was thinking of putting drapes and some lighting. I wanted to know if anyone was able to achieve this with a venue with strict rules before? Please help!! Thank you!Smiley smile

Pipe and drape will be your best bet if you want to have hanging fabric. There are lots of How-to sites. It's basically a few sections of PVC pipe, with fabric attached. You can either DIY it or rent from party/event rental places.

It can get expensive, so keep that in mind.

Is this for the ceremony area or reception? If it is the reception maybe you can have tall centerpieces to stand out more. Also uplighting can be very nice. You can do lights under tables too like this:

If it is the ceremony site then there are a lot of decorations you can put on the seats along the aisle and maybe a fancy aisle runner.

Check out pinterest for more ideas or search on google for your venue and try to see if any professional photographers have uploaded pictures from a previous wedding to see how others got along with the rules. Good luck!

Is this type of draping possible for pipe and draping? Or does it have to hang on to something for the ceiling part to look like this? Does anyone know?

Your first picture is upside down. It took me a second to realize what I was looking at.

Can you re-right it for easiness to imagine, please?

For a minute I thought it was the inside bottom a ship, lol

Do they have photos of past events that were fully decorated? Most venue, love to show off their location with other events

Ceiling draping is attached to the ceiling -- so you probably would not be able to do that. But, that ceiling is so dramatic -- no need to cover it!

Pipe & drape would work around the walls or if you need to make smaller "rooms" from the one large room.

The ceiling is gorgeous! I really wouldn't worry about covering it. The look you're going for I think would be impossible without attaching things to the wall or ceiling.

Plus with the draping, you would need more lights. Maybe instead of that, you can hang like ribbon or lights with tulle or something over the beams. I'm on my phone so can't post a pic but I see it in my head!!

Have you check out the FB with the other Barn (btw i so wanted that venue was ready to put down a down payment but they charged for every little thing but i'm still in love with that venue still one of my top choices) But anyways check out FB and see how other people decorated to me you really do not need a lot to decorate that venue its beautiful alone. IF you have the tables decorated nice you should be fine!!

check out to see what others did for their reception

Maybe rent a bunch of pillars or antique furniture and decorate them with flowers or hang fabric between them

We do draping and lighting all the time here at our venue. But you do need to be able to attach it to something. Something will need to be attached somehow. Are you able to email these images to your venue, and see if they are able to offer possible options? Do they have a coordinator that is able to assist with any decorating? That way you could make sure to fall within their rules.

In order to get the look you are showing in your picture, with pillars...the pillars would need to be almost to the ceiling. The way the ceiling is in the first photo...you are not going to be able to get the high without assistance from you venue. I truly hope this is not the case for you, but some venues will not let clients or guests stand on a ladder within the venue. Strict policies due to past events. I really would show your photo to the venue, and see if they can help you. I wish you the best.

Since the venue has some strict rules I would ask for a list of recommended vendors who have been there before. Those vendors will know what is and isn't possible. Pictures are fine, but they may not have photos of everything that is possible.
