Help with Honeymoon!

Larissa, on October 22, 2020 at 7:35 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 7
I am getting married in July but we want to plan our honeymoon soon because of cheaper flights etc.
We don’t know what will be going on with Covid in July so we just don’t know if we should play it safe and stay stateside or plan the dream honeymoon... any suggestions?! Also would love ideas on destinations as well!

I don't think there's anything wrong with planning and remaining hopeful for July next year, but I definitely think you should make sure you can cancel for free in the case that travel restrictions are still in place.

As for destinations, what does your dream honeymoon look like? Do you want to relax on a tropical beach with your new spouse, or are you more adventurous? Hot weather, or more temperate? Is there a specific continent or country that you've always wanted to visit? That could help narrow it down. If you end up staying Stateside, is there a region/state/national park you've always wanted to see?

I think we'll be able to provide more concrete advice if you can narrow some of these initial questions down a bit. I think a dream honeymoon probably looks completely different to different people!

I wouldn't plan any international travel at this time.

I agree with this entirely! Unless you can make plans where there are guaranteed full-cancellation refunds or you'd be fine with potentially losing a lot of money, I'd just hold off on booking international travel. We had a trip to Ireland planned for 6 months that was supposed to happen last June. Even when our international carrier cancelled all flights, it still took months to get the airfare refund (and we had to assertively fight them on trying to just give us a credit). I think there are at least three sets of accommodations that would only give us a credit -- no refunds of those deposits. So we have about $1000 tied up with those with absolutely no idea when we might be able to travel. Our trip was planned fully before Covid hit, and the entire country of Ireland was basically shut down to international visitors (unless we were going to quarantine for 14 days...and even with that there were very few options for things to do once we were "free"), and it still was difficult to cancel/change plans. Personally, I'd research options, but I'd hold off booking anything major -- in the US or abroad.

I personally wouldn't plan anything international right now, but if you do like everyone said I would definitely look at the cancellation policies
