HELP..with thank you note wording

Mrs Lisa M., on May 1, 2014 at 7:11 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

My co-workers gave us a card with money in it, when I returned from our honeymoon. I need help with wording the thank you card.

I don't want to sound cheesy or not sincere enough.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

You can say "thank you for the envelope" (in many areas, that's ok to say) or "thank you for the cash gift" if you need to be more specific. I'd probably just say something like "thank you for being so generous" and they would know what that means and then mention something you'll do with the money.

Even if it's $20, that's still very thoughtful. I wouldn't say generous if the gift is small...one time a friend of mine gave his cleaning lady $20 for Xmas and she wrote "Thank you for your generosity." and he thought she was being sarcastic--I thought it was sincere. Whatever. So if it's a small amount be careful and know your audience.

    Good luck.

I've read somewhere that when it comes to cash gifts, you are supposed to write in the thank you what you intend to use it for (I don't know if this is true or not), but if so you could say:

"Thank you for the gift of money. It is greatly appreciated. We plan to put this towards _____"

But actually, now that I write it out, I don't like the way it sounds when you add in what you intend to use it for.

    This is so hard!

Not just this one but thinking about the other 100+ thank you cards we have to write out gives me a headache. We appreciate all the gifts but when you try to put into words thank you's, sometimes it can come out all wrong and make you seem like an idiot.

    Hey Lisa,

I know what you mean. I went a little stir-crazy writing all of my TY notes. Keeping it simple is key.

"We can't thank you enough for your generous gift to us. While it was completely unexpected, it is so very much appreciated and will put to good use for our future together."

You can actually take pieces of what I wrote above and turn it into a million TY notes, if you get overwhelmed. Don't worry, you'll get it done sooner than you think. Smiley smile

I would say something along the lines of " Thank you for sharing our special day with us, and for the generous gift. It will be put to good use on ______________"

Keep breathing, you'll get them all done =) Make sure your hubby helps too!

Thank you for your generous gift. H (name) and I were so touched that you thought of us during our special day (or time). We are excited to use your gift as we start our lives together as newlyweds. (Or you can say something specific if you are saving for a house or something.)

    With love,

    Lisa
