Help with the colors!!

Tara, on April 12, 2012 at 3:10 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 21

Hello all, this is my first post so I'm still getting used to it but I have a question for you all. Me and my fiance are from small towns and he is a big outdoors guy. He asked for one thing for the wedding and besides that he would be happy with whatever we decided. He wants to be able to wear a camo vest as well as his groomsmen. Now I am fine with that but we are just using the brown from the camo to decorate with. Now I'm am trying to find colors (for bridemaids and decorations) that would go with the camo that the groomsmen will be wearing and the brown that will be a color we decorate with. I am getting my bridemaids dresses from Davids bridal and am trying to decide on 3 colors. I think that I really want at least one shade of pink and then maybe the orange (tangerine) but I don't know what to do for the 3rd color. Or if I should just change them all. I was going to do begonia, sagria, and pink but none of my BM were really interesting in light pink. What do you think?

I say put the ladies in one of the brown shades that are in the vest. Bring one with you so you can match. Even a champagne might look good.

Hi Tara ~ welcome to WW.

    Mossy oak camo?

I think 1 color for the Maid of Honor, and then the other ladies in a 2nd color. Your 3rd color can come in with the flowers. Maybe do light pink for the flowers?

Welcome to WW. It is my opinion that if you are going to go with camo / brown , you only use one accent color. My fear is if you add another color it will be way to busy. I love camo and orange/tangerine. Also with a summer wedding, camo and yellow may also look very pretty.

Thanks...those are some good ideas and I'm too nice I guess to make them wear something they aren't comfortable in. ha I also love the pink and camo. And I have thought about a brown color but was wondering how that would look next to the bright colors of the other dresses...I have always liked the idea of different colored BM dresses so I need to find 3 dress colors that would look good next to each other. I'm trying to pick the colors from the Davids Bridal color center, so if anyone can name some colors of there would be great.

Keep the camo to a minimum. Have little pops of it but not Tons of it. It will have more of an impact if there is a ribbon of it here and there. Or just a runner instead of a whole table.

    ~ Happy Planning ~

I am going to agree with Kimberly - you may want to reconsider using multiple colored dresses with the camo - it will start looking very busy and not really go very well. unless you pick 3 colors out of the camo you've chosen.

    what camo did he choose?

Thanks Hayley and Kimberly. I wrote that other comment before I saw yours so...Hayley that is a really good idea about MOH in one and then others in a different color. I have looked up pink flowers a lot and orange is a color that is often put with them so that is why I was thinking pink and orange for sure....the only problem is my sister who is my MOH is a red head and her hair is pretty much orange so she doesn't really like to wear orange as well as one of my bridesmaids has red hair but a darker red. Kimberly I really like yellow with it too and have thought about adding that with the camo as well. Thanks everyone for the ideas!!! Smiley smile It's helping me to figure out and narrow down which colors to use.

Its not about nice-ness. lol. Its about the fabric looking the same in pictures, and blending together. I let my girls choose their own dresses, i said, long... black and Chiffon. Go find it! lol i love the yellow with the camo... that was nice!

Your sister can be in the purplish dress.

Flowers, you could do pink and purple flowers. They would look good with both color dresses.

Unless you really do want the orange.

What kind of camo are the men wearing?

    Mossy oak? White/snow?

I don't want to use much camo at all. The only camo that there will be will be their vest and maybe a few accent ribbons here and there. Thats why I am focusing more on brown to use for the decorating because I think that camo would be too busy to have all around the reception site. He loves mossy oak camo. It will probably be like the one below. Hayley I really like that invite where did you find it?? And I really like those 3 dress colors together those would look great, I have always wondered about a darkish purple with the brown.

When I have thought about only doing one color for bridemaids I have thought about doing a shade of pink than then putting a matching camo sash around their waist. The groomsmen will have matching ties for whatever color their bridesmaid is wearing. And my groom will wear a white tie. I really like the colors of these centerpieces and is where I first got the idea about the pink and orange but if I just went with pink would bouquets like these centerpieces still look good? I love gerber daisys also.

The invite was a DIY created on vistaprint.

A "how to" is located here.

Dark purple (wine, sangria, plum) and brown would look nice together. You can add some lighter flowers and such to brighten it.

What would go really nicely with browns are Khaki greens, sage greens, gold would be beautiful as an accent color and if you want a pink or an orange keep them on more or the warm side with a golden undertone. So maybe Greens Browns and Golds. A sunset pink with gold would make a nice brides maids dress. I hope thats helpful.

Thanks...I'm starting to really like the dark purple and I'm wondering if a gold accent in like decorations would look good with the brown and purple. Or maybe green accent like in this picture. What you think?

Your orange inspiration looks like a Lot of colors to go with all the patterns on the camo.

I would try to cut it down to 2 colors.

    For the purple and gold...

You could look into doing purple anemone

    or purple dahlias

    purple dahlias and sunflowers

or Purple anemone and yellow gerber daisy bouquets.
