HELP!!!!!!!!! YACHT WEDDINGS

Marie , on September 27, 2010 at 4:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 38

I'm new to the forums. I'm getting married next year & I wanted to do something really different for my wedding reception. I decided to have the reception on a yacht to be precise the Sun Dreams Charter Yacht in florida. I wanted to have a memorable reception & location for my guest & I.

Has anyone had or knows someone that has had a yacht wedding and if yes what was the feedback on that venue?

Also please share you thoughs on my venue selection I am very confused on selecting a venue plus I feel as if I'm running out of time.

The only real drawbacks I can think of are, 1. if you're out on the water, folks who need to leave early can't - unless they swim for it. 2. Some people get really bad motion sickness on the water - I'd stock some Dramamine in the restrooms.

I looked into it and was really considering it, but then decided not to. I looked in Newport Beach CA and if we were to go with that we would only have it for 4 hours... that means 4 hours for ceremony, reception, cake, pictures, dancing, walking around to say our thank you's, and whatever else. on the up side it was all inclusive aside from table flowers. i would check out what all in includes, how long you have the yacht for and if you want it longer what the additional charge would be. good luck !!! : )

Shannon according to the wedding coord. she insured me that we are not going into the ocean so ppl won't be see sick. As far as someone leaving early that would be something they need to have figured out during their RSVP time lol... unless they have a life vest lol...

I've officiated several weddings on a local yacht. Check out www.MarinaJacks.com here in Sarasota, FL.

Marie, I looked into that option and they are REALLY quick.. like 4 hours long, ceremony reception and then give you the boot.. It's a nice option, but if you're looking for a long event, that's not the route Smiley sad

Thanks Ashley I have looked into the all inclusive yachts & all I would be responsible for would be for my centerpieces. I would have to choose the five hour package just to have enough time to do everything.

@Lauren I decide on the yacht because I wanted to do something really different instead of the same old banquet hall or country club. Do you have any suggestions for a venue that would have my guests WOW'd & talking about my venue for a long time.

You could also do a REAL cruise wedding.. Most cruise lines will take 10-20 guests on with you for the cost of the wedding (2k-5k) and then everyone else can pay separately.. it sounds tacky, but it's a vacation for everyone!, so it almost works out the wedding is a bonus Smiley smile

Thanks Lauren I have seen most of these venues especially the Sunrise Civic Center I actually have the date reserve there & I have put down a deposit already but I just wasn't in love with it. I live in Sunrise so I have a lot of banquet hall with-in reach but I want one that will pop out to me. Oh God help me LOL...

Some of my best friends got married on a yacht a couple years ago in S Cal, unfortunately my FH and I met them about 4 months AFTER their wedding!!! Ugh, so bummed we missed out but our friends were thrilled with how everything turned out. It was super $$$$ but everything was included, full bar, catering, rentals etc.

I had a yacht wedding! and it was awesome. no one got motion/sea sick because we just cruised around Newport harbor. It was all inclusive, all I had to do was the centerpieces. It was 4 hours, and I think it was the perfect amount of time. All the guests loved it, and the food was amazing, I am still getting complements.

Thanks Joanna this is just the feedback I was looking for. Did you & your guest have enough time to party? Also if you don't mind me asking were your thank-you gifts along the lines of the yacht theme or was it completely different?

Lauren- They still haven't found a new owner yet however I went into the City of Sunrise office & did it through them. I had to prove I lived in Sunrise so they took my DL plus my water or FPL bill.
