We are on a TIGHT budget, we were looking into a VFW hall and having catering. Well I was looking at the place we would be getting the catering from and they offer events, so I was crunching numbers and if we have it at the place that we wanted to have do the catering we would save some money....

We are on a TIGHT budget, we were looking into a VFW hall and having catering. Well I was looking at the place we would be getting the catering from and they offer events, so I was crunching numbers and if we have it at the place that we wanted to have do the catering we would save some money. NOW..., my aunt/godmother is trying to put her 2 cents in and tell me to do a country club (looked at the prices and its DEF out of budget) she is being PUSHY with it and I keep telling her its NOT AFFORDABLE. Im def 2nd guessing doing the VFW hall, NO deposits have been made, but Im just not sure what to do!! My FH and I are getting together every Fri to discuss things I am planning on bringing ALL this up when we talk tomorrow but I really not sure.

I dont have family that can really help with this, my mom passed away when I was 16, my grandmother passed 2 yrs ago and my grandfater passed 15 yrs ago. I have 1 aunt (horriable healt, doesnt work) and 1 uncle (war vet, health not great) left, my uncle and his wife ARE going to pay for my dress (PHEW, was worried how I was gonna afford that). My FH has a BIG family but he is a VERY independent person he doesnt ask for help if its not life or death, even then its still VERY hard for him to ask for family help. We both know that his family will help where we need it, if needed. This venue thing is really starting to stress me out and just want to break down and cry. ANY and ALL advice is welcome. THANK YOU!!

Girl I want a big wedding so bad! And I actually have people offering to help with the little thing like cake, dj.. personally I cannot in good conscience spend so much on a wedding! Whether or not it's all our money I just cant help but feel guilty to spend so much on one day.. I say all that to say we are having our reception at a SENIOR CENTER lmfao! Are guest going to judge us? Oh most definitely! But whatever, the point of it is to celebrate your union with those close to you :-) do what you can afford, no sense in starting a union in debt and stress. Best wishes!

Where are you in IL? I might be able to help. But my two cents is that you should plan the wedding you want and can afford. Don't let others rain on your parade! Sounds to me like you're doing things responsibly and there's no reason to let your aunt bully you.

This is YOUR day. Do what's best for you. Don't spend a bunch on unnecessary money on a one day event just to please someone who is not wiling to help you fund it.

Tough situation - FH and I are in a similar one. We are on our own financially as well, and even emotionally in my aspects of life. I am with my people on here when I say the Wedding planning is on a NEED TO KNOW BASIS. People will always try to have opinions, and ultimately live vicariously through you, but this is your day with your husband to be. And unless someone is paying for something, they absolutely do not get a say in what you choose. They are attendees, nothing more. (When it comes to the party side of things, ya know.)

There are many ways to save money. The two biggest I've noticed is DIY! And having a small guest list. I maxed out my guest list at about 26-30. (Not finalized.) And that has saved tremendously in food, drinks, invites, etc. I mean THOUSANDS have been saved by making some hard decisions, but like I said, if you're not paying for it - You can't have a huge opinion. DIY has been fun too. I'm going to DIY my flowers and some other décor. Can't stress it enough, this shaved almost 66% off of my flower budget. I was getting quoted at ~$3K for flowers, and I ended up at $900 for everything I want. So just see what you can do with your hands. Smiley heart

I am DIY my center pieces, we are doing a candy table for like a make your own candy/favor bags (idea from his sisters wedding). Since I will only need flowers manily for the bridal party and grooms men my flowers will only be about $500. My dress will be paid for, my moms brother said he would ❤. We are starting to look for decorations NOW during the holiday Halloween season to use for the wedding next year that will help too!

If you’re paying for it then don’t don’t listen to her opinion and do what you can afford

What about a City or County venue?

We did a City venue and it was great.

It’s a really nice place with a spectacular view, great location (close to 2 major Highways), walk-in Cooler, full Kitchen, they had Rectangle and Round Tables, along with 200 \_s.

Just make sure to research and weigh all your options before signing anything.

I found my venue while conducting research to find a place for a former co-worker to have an event.

Yes. I had to do that too. “Input and opinions cost 💵” 🤐a lot of 🗣.
