Hemming Dress to 3 1/2 Inch Heel - Bad Idea?

PrettyinPink, on July 20, 2017 at 6:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

I went and ordered my Eddy K dress and didn't even have my heels picked out yet. For some reason, they do custom hemming when they order the dress and when it actually arrives in the store they do the rest of the alterations (taking it in, sewing cups in, etc. - not sure how common this is). I had no idea what size heel I wanted to wear, so she told them to hem it for 3 1/2 inch heels. I don't wear heels a whole lot, so I'll have to practice, but I am kind of nervous. If I decide to wear 3 inch heels, do you think it would make a big difference? I am planning on switching to flats and I'm scared I'll be tripping all over the place. I thought most places order the dress and do the hemming later? On another note, any comfortable and affordable 3 1/2 inch heels?

If you don't typically wear heels then wearing 3 1/2 inch may be too high, and yes, if you switch to flats you'll potentially have to be careful not to trip and walk almost kicking the dress im front of you. My dress has 2 inches left at the bottom. I got some cute 2 or 2.5 inch heels because I'm not sure if I'll switch shoes but if i do it'll be to something like wedges to keep the same height. Nine west has super comfortable shoes and you can order at decent prices on Amazon and do free and easy returns/exchanges if necessary . I've done that and have been very happy. Good luck!

Just because the hem length was custom ordered does not mean you can't get the dress hemmed again. Don't stress, keep shoe shopping, and when you go for your first fitting bring the shoes you've chosen and your flats and give them both a try in the dress.

They ordered mine for 3 inch heels added to my height. I brought a pair of heels with me that I had worn previously knowing I wouldn't go any higher since I don't typically wear heels either. Just make sure you have your shoes to wear the day of your first fitting. If you plan to change to flats, bring them to and talk about your concerns

They probably advised you to go with 3.5" because you will most likely not get heels any taller than that. That means that your hem won't be too short. If you don't normally wear heels, then don't buy heels that high! You don't want to break your ankle on your wedding day! Just relax and find a shorter heel. They can always fix the hem again.

Mine was custom hemmed when I ordered it and it still came out way too long so I need it hemmed again
