Henna/Mehndi with white dress?

NoraBoraXD, on December 12, 2017 at 12:16 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 32

My father offered to pay for my henna for the wedding, and I'm split on whether I should do it. On the one hand, it could look great and it traditional for half of me. On the other hand, it could look awful with the dress, it's not something that I can wash off before the big day.

I know there are other options like body paint, but I wanna do it for real or not at all.

Has anyone seen this combo or is thinking about doing it?

Also, google search doesn't turn up many results or reviews.

I thought about doing it on my feet/ankles and onto the leg like your photo, because I didn't want it to take away from all of the other details going on.

But I love the design in your first pic. Lol

Who knows...I have 6 months to decide. Haha

    @amandaaok woohoo!

That is one of my concerns to - I'm having a high-low dress made inspired by this dress so the henna will be visible all night. =\

Does it make sense to do a test design like 2 months in advance?

I would totally do a test design to see of you like it!

I just didn't want to look back in my wedding photos with an all white dress/veil etc and have the henna be so glaring against it...

It would be very different if I were doing a full-blown all colors Arabian wedding, but I'm not and I worry the henna would stand out more than enhance.

Maybe do palms of hands instead of tops? Not sure..now looking for more inspo pics.

What the heck?!?! Apparently "white henna " is a thing now?!?!

I had no idea...I feel like it is kind of a b.s. cultural appropriation thing, however this bride is not of all white ancestry and I saw some others, must be a new trend??

It does kind of look cool...gives the patterns more of a lace feel and actually ends up looking almost like jewelry in some photos.

Do not do any different colored hennas. The correct color of henna is a reddish brown and there have been horror stories of people contracting terrible skin conditions from the less conventional colors.

Side note, I think the pic you attached is actually a decal? It doesn't look like painted on henna.

I'm having mine done for my Indian ceremony, but I'm not having any for the Western ceremony. Same reason as you...didn't think it would fit with the dress.

I know what the "correct" color of henna is...just was shocked to see it in "white" but it certainly came up in henna searches for inspo pics. That isn't a decal, there were several that showed it being applied.

Do feet/ankles and only the inside of your arms/hands? then you can hide it with your bouquet if you want.

I think it would look beautiful! I agree, give it a trial run and see what you think. But that hand picture you posted is amazing!

Half Moroccan. Moroccans also have wedding hennas - typically there is a henna party 3 nights before the wedding. I was thinking something delicate and sparse on my hands/wrists, and ankles/calves.

I don’t think it will look bad with a white dress, there’s different shades of henna. I’ve only seen it with East Asian weddings and the brides all wear red so I cannot help there.

I think it would look beautiful but you can't go wrong either way. It's part of you and if you want to do it, go for it!
