Here's one I'm sure none of you have seen before....

We live in San Diego CA and will be traveling to upstate NY for our wedding and bringing a taste of San Diego/ Mexico with us (lots of mexican dishes on the buffet and homemade Horchata).

It will be a very family friendly event and we have about 15 kids under 12. We've found a pinata for them!!!

What would your suggestions be for cute music (preferably latin/ mexican) to have in the background during the big pinata beat down???

Oh my goodness! We're doing that too! It's not part of the theme, it's just awesome.

I'm having trouble thinking of anything that's not cliche, since I don't listen to a lot of Latin music, but La Bamba's a classic. (It's about graceful, exciting dancing, btw, not tootoo heavy on the innuendo. Funny as a background to the not-so-graceful smashing!)

Same here.. i will have a few guests who are Mexican and don't want to offend Smiley winking

I just simply ASK them their opinion but they are the boyfriends/dates of friends and i've never met them Smiley winking

We're having a latino wedding too, lol. Not Mexican though, his family is Venezuelan. This is one of the dance songs we're playing at the wedding (sorry about the dance studio/fitness class video, it's the only good version I found on youtube)

You could also try some Shakira if you really want music.

Or you could teach all your guests the traditional Pinata song. I think I remember the words and I'll add them below, but you can probably find the music for it online somewhere since I can't sing it for you.

    Dale, dale, dale

    No pierdas el tino

    porque si lo pierdas,

    pierdes el camino

And then you count too in the second part, but I forget the words for that part.

La cucaracha is the only song that immediately comes to mind... I am sure that is far from helpful...

I think it is pretty common in Texas. My photographer shot a wedding where they had custom pinatas made to look like the bride and groom.

    Best. Pinata. Ever.

However, I cannot condone the beating of llamas for any reason.

Yeah... bride n groom pinata is interesting but i'm sure that most of us don't need to see new in laws betraying their feelings by beating us to a candied pulp Smiley winking

I actually got a donkey instead of a Llama - more for my FH - he's always quoting Gabriel Iglesias and i thought he'd get a kick out of it.

Welllll... the only song that comes to mind is the "chocolate" song.. "uno dos tres cho- uno dos tres co- uno dos tres la- uno dos trest te- chocolate, chocolate, bate, bate el chocolate!"
I heard it in Spanish class.. it's cute though and candy incorporated so it could be appropriate. Smiley smile

just beware, it WILL get stuck in your head!

El Jarabe Tapatio would be my recommendation to get everyone around the pinata.

Then... as the children step up to break the pinata, there's a chant:

Dale, dale, dale, no pierdas el tino

porque si lo pierdes, pierdes el camino

The bride and Groom pinatas were for the kids.. not adults.
