What is the cheaper option of cakes that I should be looking for? And when to order the cake? I dont wanna call the cake maker and not know anything about cakes.

Many places do pricing per person. I've seen prices from 3 -7.50/pp. Prices will vary greatly depending on where you are.

In my area, 3-12.00 per serving, depending on the decor. Cheaper is sheet cakes. Maybe 2.50 or so.

If you want to save money look for someone who does wedding cakes on the side. I used a lady who has a business out of her house but still does an amazing job. She was quite reasonably prices & I only paid $350.

I sent a picture of the cake I liked to her & a few other cake shops. Each of the shops came back quoting at least $800 ... when the lady I went with quoted $250 + the cost of flowers.

Also she suggested that you pick a cake that will feed 80% of your guests since not everyone will be there or go for the cake!

Sam's Club has cheaper sheet cake and it is actually pretty tasty. You could get a couple sheet cakes and then just get a smaller fancy one to cut.

You can get a small cake for cutting, and then sheet cake for serving-- that will be the easiest way to save money.

Cake prices will vary widely, and be most dependent on location (Celia is also in NJ, so the prices she lists of $3-12 per person should be close to what you can expect). Next, on the decoration/number of tiers-- a simple, one-tier buttercream-frosted cake will be much cheaper than an elaborate, multi-tiered fondant cake.

We found a Greek bakery that many people know about in our area--but most folks here in Atlanta don't expect them to make astounding wedding cakes, too! Their baked goods are spectacular--and our wedding cake for 75 guests is going to run $100-150. AND we got to taste everything, too! NO ONE could beat the price--and they deliver and assemble as well.

Look for those smaller bakery shops. We found the bigger, more well-known ones were higher priced--even grocery stores/discount stores like Costco.

I was quoted $750.00 from Bakers Perfection in Rockaway for a cake to feed 80 and $1,200 from Blue Sheep Bakery in Somerville.

I just sent you an invite to connect, private message me.

Yeah, cakes get very expensive. But my "cake" is actually under $200, because I'm doing a dessert table. 2 tall 8" cakes (serving at least 30) 30 medium cupcakes, 40 cannolis, 30 French Macarons. We're also having a daytime ceremony, so people will probably eat less sweets.

My cake for 100 servings will cost $400. ($4/serving) it includes a cake stand, delivery, any flavors, no extra cost for each tier being different. It did not include fondant which was fine because fh hates fondant.

I'm getting my cake from a local bakery that does fantastic work. My 3-tier cake serves 120 and is only $300. However, the catch was that it was part of a "300 Series" set of cakes. There were 4 cakes to choose from, limited flavors, and besides color we were not able to change any part of the design. Maybe bakeries around you might do specials like that? In my area there were 3 bakeries that I know of that were running similar deals as long as you don't want anything too specific or fancy.

Hey @future mrs.jkr I think that is a great idea to do a desert table. So you put the wedding cake on the same table as the other deserts or separately on another table.

We're doing five different cakes and were quoted $425 including delivery. Our designs are relatively simple though, so depending on how elaborate you want to go, it can definetly be done.

A lot of the cost of a cake is architecture and decorations. So if you get several plain white cakes in various sizes, put them on matching stands, and decorate them yourself with fresh flowers, you can pay a lot less than if you get a conventional tiered wedding cake.

@Mya, I'm in Atlanta too, and that's an amazing price! What's the name of your bakery? Our cake comes with the venue, but we get reimbursed that portion of the price if we use a different bakery. Since the venue's bakery has limited options, I would love to see what else is available.
