Hire a calligrapher or address our own wedding invitations?

Is anyone else with not-so-great handwriting addressing their save the date's and invites themselves? I have pretty messy handwriting unless I write quite slowly so writing out all of these names and addresses might take a long time. Is hiring a calligrapher a worthwhile expense to take on?

One of my bridesmaids has amazing cursive handwriting so I was planning on delegating that task to her. Does anyone in your bridal party have good handwriting? That could be an option.

The vendor I’m getting my stationary from does printing for an extra fee but it seemed expensive. I wasn’t sure if just finding someone local to buy and address my envelopes would even out or cost more? It’s looking more like I’ll just pay the extra fee to have my vendor do it. Thank you!!

Did you stencil every single letter? That would take forever or no?

Minted offered this for free, so we definitely took advantage of this considering my "doctor's handwriting". I am at a loss of what to do for thank you notes later.

Oh my gosh, same here. FH has literal chicken scratch other than numbers because he works with those on a daily. I have some sort of half cursive scribble that gets increasingly worse the more I write. I'm assuming I'll have to do like 2 cards at a time before taking a break if I want anyone to be able to read them lol.

I have come to the conclusion that I’m going to be “rude” and type them. I don’t think people want to try to read my doctor Scribble and I think trying too hard will make it worse!

Oh wow! Good for you. I’m a doctor and my wedding is in December-my handwriting is 100% a lost cause 😂😂 if people are offended I’ll be typing my thank you notes then that’s on them-I’ll Scribble a little message in the corner with my real writing as to why.

Just here to give another idea. For addressing, another hack is to print the address super lightly on the envelopes, then tracing them with a gel pen or an extra fine tip paint pen. Here is an example of what I did for a table sign.

As someone who loves calligraphy and looks at stamps and addressing of envelopes, I would say print them in a calligraphy script or enlist a friend with pretty hand-writing. I love calligraphy but it is 2 dollar per envelope minimum from what I’ve seen so it isn’t worth it to me. A friend had a calligraphy done and it was practically illegible with all the pretty swirls. If you hire someone really check out their style. My handwriting is awful so I bought a ruler and checked out some library books about art writing but will probably end up having mom who has gorgeous handwriting help for the people who will notice the handwriting.

Do you have any friends or family members that own a Cricut ? I have nice handwriting and I do calligraphy but I used my cricut machine for my save the dates to save some time and they were perfect!
