Hiring someone to deliver flowers

Lorraine, on March 11, 2022 at 4:30 PM Posted in Planning 6 5

I really wanted to give my business to a local florist, but my venue is outside of their delivery radius. I am at the point where I would rather hire someone to pick up and deliver the flowers than worry about another logistic myself (or ask a guest to do it for me). How can I go about hiring a professional to do this? I'm a little nervous about using Task Rabbit or Roadie for something so delicate (and for a 93-mile road trip). Any ideas?

93 miles is a hefty distance. Where are you located that no one closer is able to deliver? Is there a local grocery store with a floral department that a parent or other close person can pick up for you? Another option is ordering flowers from fiftyflowers.com and making your own with their online tutorials.

I think you should also consider finding another small local business closer to your venue. Florists not only create the centerpieces but they have specific ways in which they transport them so they don’t fall over and get crushed in the car. They also bring them from the car/van to your venue and onto the tables and they might throw in votive candles and they will usually do a fair amount of set up. They also deliver bouquets and corsages and boutonnières (if you were having those items) if you ask a friend or family member or hire a stranger, I would be nervous it was too much work for a family member or not trust the delivery person.

Points taken, but I have already hired the florist so I would lose my deposit. The distance is so far because the florist is based in DC (where I live) and the wedding is in Shenandoah National Park. So I am trying to find a work around at this point.

Do you have a DOC, if so maybe they can drive in with them? If not, I'd see if a family member who will already be arriving early can pick them up. Perhaps a trusted bridesmaid or groomsmen would be a good fit if they are coming in from DC as well.

If it's just a matter of picking up, it's easier to find someone to pick up. But what about setting up? Just bouquets and corsages that's one thing, but who will set it all up on tables, the arbor, ceremony, etc? My wedding coordinator offers a staffer to help set up or take down. Maybe yours does too or your rentals company.
