hmua Optional

Amanda, on July 24, 2020 at 8:12 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 11

Pre-Covid, I was going to have 2 HMUA's come to our getting ready site and pay for them to do everyone's hair. I was also going to have them do my make up and anyone else who wanted make-up done would pay for that themselves. However, it's looking like I (and most of my bridal party) will be getting furloughed from our jobs by December and cash won't be something we all have a lot of a that time. Would it be fair to at this point to come out and say that hair is ALSO optional and if they want to have it done they have to pay for it themselves like the original plan with the make up? I am not requiring any certain hairstyle and I know all of my girls are fully capable of doing their own hair and make up and looking amazing. I will still have my hair and make up done by HMUA as well as my daughter's hair and I know my Mom and FMIL will also be needing/wanting their hair and make up done as well. I'm just thinking for our Bridal Party of 8, it's too much out of pocket for me at this point for one day and something that isn't that big of a deal to me.

I think it's totally fine to tell them that professional hair services will be optional and give them the choice to use the HMUA.

Thank you! The whole situation just sucks but I really cannot afford to spend that kind of extra money at this point.

Understandable! Lots of people need to cut expenses wherever they can right now.

I think that it’s fine as long as you’re making it optional!!

I would just double check with hmua that you select and make sure there isn’t a minimum number of people required for on-site work.
Also, if it’s possible to go to their studio to get done ahead of time, it might be more cost effective for everyone.
    Just a thought.

Yeah that sounds fine but I would check with them again to see if that’s something they even want? Like pp said what if there’s a minimum needed and your bridesmaids end up not wanting to do it

I would definitely make both optional. If you required it, it would be up to you to pay for it.

HMUA services are never required at weddings. At many weddings, bridesmaids, MOB/MOG, and others are left to figure this out on their own. If you, the bride, want to offer those services to your maids and other VIPs that is totally up to you. It's also up to you whether or not you pay for those services. If you decide to require that all of your girls have their hair and make-up done professionally, or that you want them all done a certain way, that would be the only time you would have an obligation to pay for them.

I am with you on that and totally understand as I am in the same situation. My FH is the only one who is working and in struggling to find work. It's very stressful and I'm having my sister pay for her own because with all the other wedding expenses, I'm stressing a bit that I won't have the funds I need. I think that since you said it was optional most people would think its fair and do what feels right for them

    Hi Ladies!!

Thank you all for the comments and kind words!! It's been a lot of stress on all us Covid Brides but we are so lucky to have wonderful support from each other! I reached out via E-Mail to the manager of the salon and they said even if it were just me, the Bride, getting my hair and make-up done they would come out to our location with "bells on". We truly have been so blessed with our vendors, they have all been nothing but accommodating and kind. I just hope everyone else has had a similar experience who is in this position. My Bridal Party was more than understanding and they all said they are more than capable of doing their own hair and make-up as long as it's done before too many mimosa's. Smiley xd
