Hobbies: Shared With Your Partner vs All On Your Own

The Bride, on July 20, 2019 at 10:15 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16

My husband and I love watching movies together, even though I ask him questions the entire time as if we're not both seeing the movie for the first time. On average, we watch 3-4 movies a week. Sometimes it's a throwback movie like Back to the Future that we watch on our couch and sometimes it's a new movie like Spider-Man: Far From Home that we'll go into the theatres to see. Either way, my husband and I bond through movies.

My husband's individual hobby is playing video games. He loves, loves, loves video games and I support his hobby by buying him new games every now and then and by giving him as must interrupted game time as I can.

My individual hobby is reading books. I love anything written by James Patterson and really enjoy immersing myself into his stories.

When we first started dating I'll admit that I thought my husband's hobby was a little immature but as time went on I learned that its one of the ways he stays connected with his life-long friends from back home.

Although my husband is not much of a book reader, he prefers articles that he finds on the internet, he has never judged my love for books.

On average, we each spend about 5 hours a week on our individual hobbies. Now that I'm actually writing that out it seems like so little time for something we both really love but hey, we have to work and have time for each other as well.

What hobbies do you share with your partner? What individual hobbies do you have? Do you agree with your partner's individual hobbies? How much time do you and your partner spend on your individual hobbies?

    We share: camping/hiking, music, TV
    Myself: painting and art
Him: video games and building computers
We'd like to get into having a project car together, and with my dad, as a family hobby. But that costs money so it needs to wait until after were married.

I also love painting. Having a family hobby sounds pretty cool.

Our together hobbies are hiking, playing with our dog, swimming, and cooking.

my individual hobbies are crafting, reading, and hanging out with my friends

his individual hobbies are soccer, running, and video games with friends

We don’t get to spend as much time as we’d like with our individual hobbies because we both have pretty demanding work schedules, but we try to do at least a couple activities together every weekend

We share: movies, food, music, motorcycles
    His: video games, camping, sports
    Mine: photography, painting
We try to do things we both like, but every once in a while we’ll try something on the other persons interests. We just tie dyed some things and it was really fun even if it turned out badly lol. We’re looking to go camping at the beginning of the year too!

The weekends are also our best chance at spending time together.

Both: hiking, video games, movies, live theater, finding different places to eat like mom and pop shops, especially when we travel!
Me: dancing, reading, art/painting, whiskey tasting
Him: playing magic the gathering, DnD, etc.

He actually designs video games so for him it is a huge part of his life! I just like to play occasionally. He goes to the conventions a lot (sometimes for fun, but lately it's mostly to showcase games he has worked on! He even got to go to Japan when he finished one game!), I want to go with him next year! We both love going to see live shows when we can, and hiking different trails. We each love our personal space but we like trying new things together! We both want to go skydiving at some point! He doesnt drink, but goes with me when we travel because I like to try the local breweries and distilleries! We usually try to pick ones that offer food, and he gets a bunch if food, and I get to try all the whiskey! 😂😂 it's a good system! We both support each other in our hobbies, try them out, and just overall enjoy doing different things both alone and together!!

OMG my husband would love to be a video game designer but is hesitant about going back to school for it because of the debt.

I've tried playing video games but I give up too quickly when I can't level up Smiley xd

Honestly, like with a lot of careers, it's really about who you know! My FH took a few community college classes and some in high school. He never got a degree. He self taught many programs he uses now. He worked as a website designer for quite a few years before we met, including for the jeweler we got my ring at! He started dabbling in pixel art and animation on the side, posted some of his stuff online, and then people starting asking him to create stuff. He set his price and went with it. Eventually, him and 2 of his friends did a game jam (competition where you make a game in like 48 hours). They made the game, it did really well, and a company contacted them to publish the game! They worked on it, its published now, and they created their own business and have been working on other games. In the meantime, because of this, his work has been shared and he got contacted by a pretty well known company and he has been getting work from this company ever since! He loves it, it's been his dream since he was a little kid! He always said he wanted to make a game and have it on a Nintendo system, and he did it! I'm so proud of him!

My advice would be to take the classes you think would help, and just start creating stuff. Honestly, my FH gets most of his work through word of mouth, Twitter, Facebook etc. The one company he works for will get people that want work done but they can't do it, so the owner will give them my FHs info and ask him to do it!

We don’t technically share any hobbies xD he likes shooting and video games and I like writing, reading, and running. However, I’ve started going shooting with him and he’s started running with me.
