Holding or postponing?

Michelle, on August 24, 2021 at 3:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
My wedding is scheduled for next week! Our wedding will be in the Hudson Valley, for about 90 people. Are you having or already hosted a wedding around this time? How are you feeling with everything going on? It’s so stressful. We just postponed our Hawaii honeymoon. I just want the wedding to go well.

I think it would be difficult to postpone so close to the day. Your guests will have already finalized their travel plans. Vendors are very booked up for the foreseeable future so if you try to find a new date, you're looking at a 2023 date at the earliest. I went to a wedding in the HV a couple weeks ago, they had 168 guests and we had a great time. There are few restrictions in NY state right now, so I would enjoy that while it lasts. Why the sudden concern? Have you gotten a lot of "no" RSVPs at the last minute?

Definitely go forward with it, it's literally right around the corner. How far out did you postpone your honeymoon?

I wouldn't postpone this close. It will a great day no matter what happens. Probably a good idea to postpone Hawaii, just saw on the news Hawaii is asking travelers to not come due to COVID surges. Enjoy your wedding and have your honeymoon when you can!

I think we’re just concerned about the recent increases in cases in our area. Some of our guests are very concerned.

We postponed until April. We’ll probably do a smaller trip after the wedding tho 😊

I would personally go through with it. Guests can decide what is best for them and what they feel comfortable with. So you may have lower attendance, but you already put so much hard work into this that it would be very difficult to postpone.

I’m also getting married in the Hudson Valley but in October. I would say to go through with it at this point. It’s so close and it will likely be a beautiful day. For reference, we already postponed from last October, so this thing is happening no matter what for us. We are expecting a little over 100 people and have required proof of vaccination or negative covid test within 72 hours of the wedding along with asking unvaccinated guests (of which there may be 2-5) to mask up. We thought for sure things would be ok by this point but we have learned that postponing will not necessarily guarantee that. We postponed so that vaccination would be widely available as a measure of protection

Go forward! Encourage everyone to either be vaccinated or get a test 3 days before (sometimes it takes 2 days to get results in my area). I'm also worried about this, but I think that's all you can do at this point! It's so close that it'll be a HUGE hassle to move.

Don’t postpone! My wedding is 10/16/21 in So Cal and I’m marrying my fiancé come hell or high water. People will show up no matter what (maybe not as many as you originally planned) but I think no matter what it will be fun. I’ve taken steps to reduce risk (mandated vaccines, trying to hire only vaccinated vendors) what else can I do? As others have said you don’t know that things will be better if you postpone. Better to just get married and move forward with your life IMO
