Holiday food traditions

What foods and meals are traditional for your families during the holidays and what are you turning into new traditions? For example, do you make a specific cookie or pie recipe for the holidays? Is there a special dish that you or your partner are known for or look forward to?

I’ve always celebrated winter solstice (and, ironically, that was also the night my fiancé proposed; and at the time he didn’t even know it was a special day for me). Every year I make traditional pagan recipes (with a few modern twists I’ve added to the recipes over the years)- wild rice and mushroom stew, crispy yeast bread, whiskey glazed carrots, mabon cake and brandy wassail. The house is lit only by greenery with string lights (hung over every door and window) and candles for dinner and throughout the rest of the evening, as it is important to have lots of candlelight on the solstice.

KIFFLES!!! They are a PITA to make, but oh so delicious. Every time my kids are home they insist on helping, which is really great actually. LOL We always do Christmas Eve dinner out at either a favorite restaurant or we try a new place we've wanted to go to. My FH and I now have a spiral ham for Christmas day with homemade mac n cheese - a blending of wo traditions. Other than those two things, it changes year to year.

My family’s Christmas dinner for the last 20+ years has been a leg of lamb roast, and my almost husband is very happy for us to take that on ourselves as well Smiley smile my parents also do seafood on Christmas Eve and my fiancé loves that, although I’m not a big fish/seafood person myself. We also do cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning. Fiancé and I haven’t started any traditions of our own just yet, but looking forward to it!
