Holiday Traditions! πŸŽ„πŸŽ€πŸŽ

Lisa, on December 19, 2022 at 11:21 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 23
Last night, my husband and I began our annual tradition of watching Christmas movies during the week leading up to Christmas day! We watch between 1 to 3 movies each day, and usually have a specific order that we watch them in. We also sometimes swap out a movie or two for something new. We have a holiday drink we make each year to enjoy while watching the movies, along with some sweet snacks to pair with it.

What are all of your traditions with your partner for on and around the holidays? Do you cook a specific meal each year? Host a themed party with friends? Dress up in matching pajamas and listen to holiday music? Spend time with family?

Happy Holidays, WeddingWire Community!

I love your movies and drinks idea!

We started a tradition of getting a new ornament for our Christmas tree every year to commemorate something special. We try to find ornaments with the year engraved on it so every year we put the tree up we can look back and remember what special thing happened in any given year. This year we obviously got an ornament to commemorate getting married! Smiley smile

We also did our first Christmas card together this year! One of our wedding gifts was a set of matching PJs, so we got similar ones for our dogs, got pictures of all of us, and used that for our card. We also included a wedding picture on it Smiley smile

Ooh that sounds great! What do you drink? We like mulled wine, but other than eating cookies and drinking we don't really have traditions.

We make a "gingerbread" house. Typically it's actually made chocolate chip or Oreo since I'm not a fan of gingerbread. We have been going this since our very first Christmas together. Last year our daughter was 8 months and she sat with us while we made it. Hopefully this year she will be a little more involved. Also now that we have a child and another on the way I've started with matching Christmas pajamas.

I love that you do engraved Christmas ornaments! Such a special way to relive those memories each year. My husband and I also collect ornaments, but most don't have any personalization, and most aren't Christmas themed. Also, I love that you also included your dogs in the matching pajamas photos!! Super cute!! Happy first Christmas as a married couple to you both!

Mulled wine is amazing!! We also enjoy it, but we mostly only drink it when we go camping in the fall. The drinks that we make during the holidays are Brandy Alexanders! My husband bought us an ice cream maker attachment for our mixer, so last year we made our own vanilla ice cream to put in the drinks. Pairs well with gingerbread cookies.

The chocolate chip or Oreo is a fun twist on a gingerbread house! Awesome that your daughter will be able to start participating in that tradition. Do you each make your own? Or do you decorate one as a family? Also, the matching Christmas pajamas is a cute idea!

So last year's was actually a village rather than a house and this years is four mini houses. But typically we just do one house. Those are just what we happened to get.

Oh wow, very cool! I don't think I've ever seen the village or mini houses, I love that there are other options than just the standard house.

Oreo actually makes the Christmas village and mini houses. We got them from Wegman's (grocery store if you don't have one in your area).

We always go out Christmas Eve for dinner. We always watch Polar Express, It's a Wonderful Life, Scrooged, and a WWII film called Silent Night ...... not necessarily all at once Smiley shame Christmas morning, no matter the breakfast menu, we always have those Pillsbury Orange cinnamon rolls. 98% of the time dinner is a spiral ham. Of course, sometimes we break tradition and go on a holiday cruise. Smiley laugh

We don't have Wegman's by us, but I will be on the lookout for those next year at our local grocery store! Thank you for the info on them!

Oh my gosh, your holiday traditions sound so relaxing, delicious, and fun! My husband and I also always watch Polar Express, we usually watch it on Christmas Eve. Do you usually go to the same restaurant every year for dinner on Christmas Eve? I have not had those Pillsbury Orange cinnamon rolls, but they sound amazing! I LOVE cinnamon rolls, so I'm now going to look for them. πŸ™‚ The cruise is also a fun way to mix up the tradition!

We have several favorite restaurants, but since we moved here only 2 years ago we are trying to expand our selections. We also go out for New Years Eve dinner, so between them we do try to hit a new place. And cruising over the holidays has become my new love - I got engaged on our last Christmas cruise. Smiley heart

Love this tradition! It sounds so cozy! What holiday drink do you guys make? We have a tradition of going to Christkindlmarket in Chicago each year. FH actually proposed on our first trip there together, and we’ve been doing it ever since. I also cook a traditional meal each year on the Winter Solstice.

That makes sense! I love the idea of trying new places each time, it helps you find some of those hidden gems that you end up visiting regularly. And so awesome that the occasional Christmas cruise has such a sweet and special meaning for you! β™₯
