Holy freaking eff.... Guess who needs a root canal 5 days before her wedding?

Now I'm Mrs_M, on September 8, 2014 at 2:55 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 40

This girl!

As if losing our venue, and my MUA wasn't enough. Blah!

I opted out of getting it today... and instead they gave me antibiotics and painkillers. He said flying will most likely irritate it and so will our honeymoon since we'll be such a high altitude. (Lake Tahoe).

One, please keep your fingers crossed for me that the antibiotics work so I am not in pain on my wedding day. If I am uncomfortable, I know it'll show in my photos.

Two, also keep your fingers crossed that the antibiotics don't cause some sort of crazy reaction. I've never taken an antibiotic in my life and am so paranoid that my face is going to swell up like a balloon!

Rawwwwwwr!

Anyone else ever have a root canal? Can you tell me about it?

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear! Are you holding off until after your wedding? I had one when I was about 10, so I really don't remember it. I do know others who had it and they were back to work the next day, so it must not be too terrible. Knock on wood!

Nope.. not abscess. Just a really deep filling on one of my molers that is now hitting the nerve of the tooth. If it was abscess, I would definitely not get it pulled five days before my wedding. I would look like a chipmunk! My body doesn't respond well to things like that and with the wedding being so close, I didn't want to chance it. I've spent way too much time and energy to not be ugly and/or in pain on the wedding day. I just want to eat cake dammit!

Andi, my dad had a root canal done on one of his front teeth and it died too.

Kristenann, I am holding off. Just hoping the antibiotics due their job!

I had a root canal a little over a year ago, and it actually wasn't as miserable as some people have made them out to seem. I was back to work after the procedure took place...I was fine, just talked a little funny until the anesthesia wore off. =)

I will say to talk to your dentist at length regarding this - after the initial root canal, I got a mad infection under my tooth, so they did a second root canal. This still didn't get rid of it, so they ended up pulling the tooth. They said that even with getting a root canal at a young age (27), the tooth will eventually have to be pulled as root canals only hold up for about 10 to 15 years. I had a tooth implant put in, and that was not fun...I was out for about 4 days, because I was hopped up on pain killers.

Future Mrs. Bauer... yeah, that doesn't so miserable at all. ;-)

He said it'll take him an hour for the first appointment where he drills and cleans, and 30 minutes for the second when he caps.

I just hope the medicines work well for you - I just remember the pain I felt before the procedure...it was almost like an instant relief when it was done. And as an FYI, I am a total pansy when it comes to pain, but I made it through the procedure a-okay. Good luck!

Kristen, the dentist told me, "If you wanna be a whole lotta fun on your wedding day, just take a painkiller and have a beer."

Then he said, "Oh and these antibiotics cancel out oral contraceptives... just to give you a heads up. I know you're going on your honeymoon and I don't want to give you a present that you don't want!"

He was obviously trying to lighten the mood because I was visibly upset. He was really nice about it.

Dang girl. I'm glad your dentist was trying to make it better though. I wouldn't have it before your wedding either. Just plan to do it when you get back. And fill those prescriptions.

Oh geez, I hope you don't get bruising. A friend of mine just went through a nightmare getting a root canal at gentle dental, hope you're not going there! Good luck.

I had the exact same thing! Big filling was redone, pain never went away so I needed a root canal. I took painkillers every day for 3 MONTHS because it was the end of the year and I needed to wait for my dental insurance allocated amount to reset in January. I got up to 5 vicodin a day to keep the pain at bay! It sucked.

Bring pain killers!! That's my best advice. When you get the actual root canal done, I guess it depends on you. I take the rest of the day off, but am usually back at work the next day. I've had 3 in the last few years (I hate my teeth-i take excellent care of them and they respond by being extremely needy and sickly).

FYI: Just a FYI for you since you have never taking a antibiotic before. If you are on birth control it cancels out your birth control. So be careful if you aren't ready for a little one yet.

If someone else already said this then sorry for the double advice. Smiley smile
