"holy Matrimony" on invites?

lyfe_girl, on August 17, 2018 at 11:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

So I was designing our invitations today, and my fiance says, "I only have one edit. I want it to say 'holy matrimony' instead of 'marriage.'"I know this is not uncommon for Catholic weddings, but we're Presbyterian. Would you think this wording odd if you saw it on an invite? (Photos to demonstrate--feel free to give constructive (kind) feedback on design too) Smiley smile

I think the holy matrimony sounds much better.

"Sacrament of Holy Matrimony" seems to only be used on invites for Catholic weddings, from what I've seen. I don't think it would be odd, just seems very formal and used mainly for Catholic mass ceremonies, or Nuptial Mass. Not sure if it's frowned upon! Could you ask the pastor at your church? Is there a reason your FH wants it worded that way?

That's what I've seen too! I think he just wants the religious nature of the ceremony emphasized. The spiritual aspect is super important to him. Maybe I just need to explain that "the honour of your presence" already denotes a religious ceremony?

Lol. Yuppp. He's hilarious about this wedding. There are very few things he's asked for, so I've been trying to give him those things, but they're funny: (1) a church; (2) organ music only for ceremony; (3) bridesmaids in long dresses (I had thought about jumping on the skirt trend) and groomsmen in suits; (4) a bar at the reception; (5) "holy matrimony" lol

I looked this up just now as i was very curious as a catholic. Holy matrimony merely means marriage in a religious ceremony. So you are good! I think the word together also needs to be larger. Hard to read.

I think holy matrimony does make it sound more elegant! I like it Smiley smile

as for feedback/critiques, try removing the extended tail at the end of ‘Isaac’ or extend the tail at the beginning of ‘Lindsie’. I think the tail is making your names appear off-center

That’s very sweet - those seem like pretty doable requests!

I think holy matrimony is fine if that’s what he wants.

To me that just says that it will be a Christian ceremony of any sort not a particular denomination. "The honor of your presence" doesnt denote religious anymore. I've been to quite a few wedding with justices of the peace who used that on their invites. It merely says that it will be a more formal event and a fancier dress "code" will be expected.
