Honest opinions on hair trial, please?

Michelle, on January 26, 2020 at 12:19 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 24
I got my hair trial done today by my brother in law’s sister. She works at a salon and she’s a “relative” so pricing is only $40 for trial and $50 for the day of hair.

I am going for a look I found in Pinterest. See last photo at the bottom for comparison. I asked my sisters for honest opinions and they said it looks nice but flat...which I agreed...they’d said it might help if: 1. Fuller curls, maybe extensions would help and tighter curls...2. More volume on top of my hair at the crown3. Maybe subtle highlights to bring out the curls because my hair is so black. Maybe like a dark dark brown.
Do you guys agree? I might have to do another trial because I feel like it’s lacking.
Aso, I don’t know why but my hair looks kinda frizzy. =\. Honest opinions on hair trial, please? 1

I agree that it's a little flat. Extensions could help but also it needs some volume in the back and some more braiding/curling down the ponytail portion

For braiding, are you referring to where the hairpiece sits?

I would hate to spend so much money but if she can’t replicate it closer to the model’s photo I might have to go with someone else that can. Even though I would hate to make it awkward.

The main differences that I see are - volume & number of curls.

I think if she gave the crown more volume and separated the curls, maybe even by doing smaller curls - you’d look more like the inspiration picture.
But, it looks great!! Especially for the price!

Another problem is, I don’t think my hair feels like it’ll stay all night....
I’ll give her a second chance and do a second trial. If she can’t do it then I’ll have to search for someone else. As awkward it would be.

So it seems everyone agrees with more volume at the crown, more tighter/separated curls, etc. I’ll have to buy extensions. I feel like I’m throwing money away lol.

I think you’re on the right track! It’s lovely right now but if you want it to look more like the pic, more curls for sure. Almost there. Such a beautiful style on you!

I think it's cute in your but like others have said it doesn't havr the same volume and curls. You say your hair doesn't hold curls long?

I’ve had my haired curled before and it lasted. The pins I can feel become loose within less than an hour like it’s not as secured. She put a lot of pins too. I’m thinking maybe she’s not as experienced as I thought.

I mean if I were a bridesmaid my hair would be okay cuz I just need it to look nice but as a bride I want to feel confident and special.

I’d ask her what pins she’s using. For my cousins wedding they used a bunch of straight pins which DO NOT HOLD. I was getting so mad when they kept falling out when I was dancing. See if there’s other ones she could use that would stay in place, and make her hairspray the crap out of it. Also, I do not think you should have to repay for the trial. Tell her you were unsatisfied and she should have to fix it

Thank you so much everyone. I just texted her ALL my concerns and asked if she can make these improvements and if so, we will do a second trial. I’ll mention the paying part because you’re right...I’m not too thrilled with it. If she does a great job second run then I’ll keep her on but if not, then I’ll have to book someone else even though she’s pretty much family lol.

Meanwhile, I’ll be searching for back ups if it doesn’t go well.

    Probably but it’s business lol.

I bought the hair extensions and she’s going to give it another try at no cost.
I also have someone who does hair on the side that I usually go to for hair coloring and styling, I just texted him and scheduled a trial. He does amazing work with curls and volume but I never seen him do hairdos. He claims to be very confident and says side sweets are his specialty and says he can make it look just like the photo so we will see.

Not to mention he said that all his time would go to me. 1.5 hours for like $65 plus $10 travel fee. $30 for the trial... my hair done by the first trial took like 30-40 min lol

Ugh can this be over with?!

You might end up spending more money doing more trials, buying extensions, dying your hair, etc. By going with her so that you can get your desired look....rather than going to a professional.

I know for sure I could use extensions. She’s not charging a second trial so I’m going to give it a shot but I’m looking for a backup plan.

My hairstylist I usually go to knows my hair and does great with volume and curls. Though I never seen his work with a side swept do I know he’s great with curls and he claims he is very confident with it. I’ll give him a shot since he worked with my hair and knows how thick it is.
All I know is, I’m not settling for mediocre feelings on my hair. Lol I’ll find someone to give me what I want.

A back up trial isn't a bad idea but good she's willing to do it for free again.
