Honestly, are silk flower centerpieces tacky?

Ok so the Mandalay Bay charges $194 per table plus taxes/fees for very basic centerpeices that I dont really even like. They do not allow outside floral vendors so i thought I might order silk flowers. Is that tacky or undesireable? I anticipated spending $100/table, not over $200!

I would prefer candles over silk flowers. I know silk is not what it used to be but I always think of the old nasty silk flowers regardless.

Oh! And we're using lanterns with candles and our bridesmaids' bouquets. Since there are eight of them...

I hate them. In my area, centerpieces run 100-300.00. There are the actual flowers (more than most people think.....) the containers, labor, delivery, and taxes. It all adds up.

I used silk flowers, not one person noticed until the end of the night when they asked if they could take them home and touched them.

That's a unique idea using the planets with your centerpieces.

Overall - I would say what is out there is tacky. yes.

BUT - there are beautiful silk flowers that just look real.

@ Tamika - do you have a picture of what you are doing for your centerpiece, it sounds like something i'm going to do. here is a picture from pinterest that i got the idea from. I'm doing 3 cylinders on a mirror with votive candles surrounding it. Orchids can be expensive so we're going with silk flowers. I believe we're also going with calla lillys in silk flowers too. The only thing that will be real is roses. The "fake" silk flowers actually looked nicer than the real ones.

Rather than purchasing tons of floral's real or silk, I've opted to make my own...flowers from my fathers silk ties and some of my mothers fine clothing that was special to her (she's passed away). I'v practiced making fabric flowers from U-Tube they are simply beautiful and relaxing for those of you that love to craft. My wedding in Sept/Oct is going to have a rustic very Texas them. The vases for the centerpieces are decoupaged wine bottles (free) and glass vases purchased from Thrift Stores. For my bouquet, I'm going to bling it up TX style with my mothers brooches and some purchased brooches from on-line. The bouquets for myself and for my bridesmaids are going to be elaborate and elegant. I expect to spend about $200.00 for All the floral decor for my Southwestern/Shabby Chic Wedding. This is an alternative for brides on a budget and for those the love to craft. Just make sure you coordinate, take your time to make it neat and clean for a fabulous wedding.
