Honeyfund .....any other honeyfund type sites

I am trying to set up a honeyfund account and noticed it charges a fee to place the funds into a bank account. However using the honey fund to cash in the funds used certain gift cards. Which way is better to utilize the funds. Also are there any other sites to set up honey fund accounts that don't...

Also are there any other sites to set up honey fund accounts that don't charge?

Most sites ive seen charges the person gifting you funds a fee. I used gofund me and placed the link in my wedding website. Never on the invites. They have a honeymoon fund option. They charged me 2.9% + $0.30...out of $100 i get $95.90. Id rather they charge me than the person gifting me directly.. and i prefer the cash with a cost that gift cards. Up to what you prefer.

When Macy's created the wedding registry in 1924 it was seen as tacky and was about as well received as the honeyfund currently is. And look at the registry today. What a person thinks is tacky is ever changing, and honestly, in doesn't matter all that much in the end.

This has bothered me. All of it. First, I thought that honeyfunds at least acted as a travel agent. If they did, it would all completely make sense to me and I would have no issues. At all. Registries are already telling people what and where to buy stuff. Get over it.
Why not call a local travel agent and see if you can register with them? Set up some type of PayPal account and maybe even pay a little to set up the back-end? This clearly isn't my area of expertise. My family is very comfortable with cash gifts, but not everyone is.
    Just an idea.

What happens if people don’t pay in advance for your honeymoon? Usually honeymoons are booked, and paid for well in advance of the wedding. If you can’t afford it now, what if people don’t give you enough to pay for your excursions or your trip in general ?

For all you pro honeyfunders out there, keep this tidbit in mind. A friend of mine recently got married this past fall. They recently finished grad school and didn't have money for a honeymoon. They also didn't have a honeyfund or and other cash grab. I knew they were probably broke...because generally you would hope your guests know you life situations at moment. Had they did a honeyfund, I'd probably would have bought them some small 50 buck gift on their registry. Since they had the class to not beg, I gifted them $500 toward their honeymoon.

Point being...people give more generously when not being told how to gift.

I think it's so funny how your question is if anybody knew of any sites but somehow it turns into them giving you every reason under the sun of why it you shouldn't have one as if you asked for an opinion. I'm sure somebody will flag this comment because "it's rude" lol. But I could care less. I personally wouldn't do this but that's me. However I've seen a lot of people say that there's some travel agents that make more sense than these funds since they're not technically booking it for you. But I would keep looking ask different travel angents and such. And also keep in mind YOU know your guest, nobody on this forum does. You know what they're comfortable with and what they'll find tacky so simply keep that in mind.

We didn’t register and received mostly cash, checks and gift cards. Only received 3-4 physical gifts out of 352 guests. If you don’t register people will get the hint and give you money. And we didn’t have to pay anyone a fee! We paid in full for the wedding and honeymoon so we’re using the extra money to add to our savings.

So agree with you Malari!!! I've actually had people ask if we were "going to do one of those sites where we can buy you xyz for your honeymoon?"

But this says way more about you than the married couple. How you "rewarded" them for registering in what you thought was the right way when you knew of their struggles. A real friend would be generous regardless of the registry. It makes you look petty.

(Completely disregarding the cash grab issue because apparently not having a honeyfund is a UO now)

I think gofundme used to be limited to this kind of thing and I thought it still was, but I just looked it up. They’ve broadened it that you can, within their rules, use it for just about anything. Medical, charity, honeyfunds. Apparently you can even use it to ask your Facebook friends for college money.

I used Zola because my FH kept pestering me that all he wanted was money. It was a tangible way to receive money, but I sincerely didn't agree with it. The money wasn't worth the fight it would have caused with him. I was able to get 2 registries created, and most people haven't looked at Zola because they're sketched out by it.

Since when did affluence relate to understanding of etiquette?

No one will ever tell a bride to her face, "That's a garbage idea and you're coming off super tacky." I mean if a majority of people think honeyfunds are tacky what's the likelihood your guests will as well...Skip the possibility. No one needs to be told that cash is an acceptable gift.

I disagree that it is not about learning everyone is different. Everyone has different circumstances and every circle has different senses of propriety. You wouldn't call a money dance tacky if it were a traditional part of someone's culture though it might seem that way to outsiders to that culture. So cultural sensitivity is important, and a general understanding that your beliefs are not the beliefs of others is important for people to keep in mind before they bang their gavel down on a forum and claim XYZ is tacky and rude and "I would eyeroll you if you sent that to me". My cousin got married 12 years ago or so and had some sort of thing set up with a travel agency so that people could contribute to her flight or hotel on her honeymoon if they wanted to, rather than having a registry. Every single person I heard mention it (without her present) though it was such a new and different idea and were excited to contribute to their honeymoon. So obviously no one was offended or felt she lacked manners. And what is considered good manners in one culture can be seen as totally agregious in others! So yes, it really is learning everyone is different and not being so quick to judge and attack. I'm not saying you were judging or attacking, but I have noticed how these forums get in general.

To answer the original question, what would inspire anyone to bear the costs of setting up a website, processing all the donations, and disbursing the funds without charging a fee? It's not a charity.

ps Honeyfunds aren't part of any culture.

I was clearly drawing a parallel, not saying that honeyfunds are cultural. People are very quick to say certain things are rude or tacky as if it is the Truth with a capital T, when really it is just an opinion and one that is not shared by everyone. You know what they say about opinions, but as it is not forum approved, suffice it to say "everyone has them."
