HoneyFund vs. Wanderable – for our Honeymoon registry

My fiance and I decided to go with a registry for our honeymoon since we've acquired all of the household items we'll ever need, and could use some help financing our trip. Of course you can do what you please. But the general opinion here tends to be that money registries are rude. They are money grabby. Like you are expecting your guests to be a money maker for you. Not their job to pay for your vacation. But each his/her own.

I would like to note that we had a HUGE registry and we got 0 items from it at the wedding. We got about 98% cash and 2% random gifts. You don't need to do this. We got soooo much cash and we used it for our honeymoon that we took 2 days later. If someone has a honeymoon fund I give them less than I would have cause they are so annoying to me.

"and additionally kindly hint to ppl that we're just trying to finance our honeymoon"

How do you do this? Where do they do this at? And do you hear yourself right now?

@christinekyle1108 I was saying you can register for your honeymoon at your local AAA travel agency. It's completely free for members .

I COMPLETELY DISAGREE that "Adults know how to give you money" people need direction, every wedding is different. So ESPECIALLY if you're having a non-traditional wedding (like I am) you need to give them guidance. OR just say, "hey, if you feel so inclined to offer us a gift you monetary contributions toward our honeymoon would be extremely appreciated" We're also going to offer pictures of us on our 'Honeymoon Excursions' as a gift to the guests who've contributed to our fund. So, it's a win win. If people are willing to spend money on you, you might as well give them your preferred method and if they don't like it, they can either A) NOT GIVE or B) Do whatever the fack they want and waste their time and money. Some guests (read: friends and family members) are A-holes and you just can't fix stupid.

So I just stumbled upon this post, because honestly, I was asking myself the same questions. However, I have also read the multitude of negative posts with strong opinions against using site like that. I did help pay for a lavish dinner for a friend and his wife for their wedding a few years back and it seemed to work well. What was neat about it was choosing the activity we thought would be nice for them and then to hear about it in the thank you we received. If these honeyfund etc websites are not the route to go, but you would still like to share excursion possibility ideas etc what would be the better route? I understand the hate for the fee, but just haven't heard an alternative that actually allows for specificity which I thought was nice.

Update (albeit very late): we chose three no-fee excursions that we really wanted to do on our honeymoon via Wanderable. All 3 were purchased by guests - again, without a fee - and they were purchased so quickly that some people were upset they didn't get to that registry in time because they LIKED the idea of contributing to our honeymoon. And while Wanderable has awfulll customer service (live & learn), all 3 excursions were SO AWESOME and we're SO HAPPY we did it this way. The excursions were in different locations which helped us plan out our honeymoon trip. Those guests who purchased the excursions received extensive thank yous, photos, and were really happy to hear how much we enjoyed the activities.

Bottom line, when it comes to a registry, do what you want & your guests will do what they want. In my situation it worked out as a win-win.
