Honeymoon Advice- cruise or resort?

Rachel, on November 5, 2019 at 12:18 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 14
My FH and I have been looking into honeymoon options and we're torn between an all-inclusive resort or a cruise. We don't want to spend a huge amount of money so I'm leaning towards a cruise. Does anyone have any cruise line suggestions or any suggestions on where we should cruise to and the length of the cruise? We would be leaving out of a Florida port in June of 2020. We've never cruised before so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We just did a cruise for our honeymoon and it was amazing! I had never cruised before and my husband hadn't since he was 10 years old, so we weren't sure what to expect, but it was so much more amazing than either of us could've imagined! We sailed with Royal Caribbean (awesome company!) and booked through cruisesonly.com which was great because we only had to put 100 down and then just paid 100 or so each month. It was 1145 for a "spacious balcony room" which I totally recommend, for 4 nights/5 days to the Bahamas. What I loved, besides the price of course, was how we were able to really relax and just enjoy our honeymoon. It was completely stress-free and we both stress a lot. Food is included and most things are free so you can just enjoy. There are comedy shows, ice skating, etc.

The two best cruise lines I've heard of (Besides Disney Cruises of course lol) are Carnival and Royal Caribbean. FH and I decided on an all inclusive resort for the fact that we rather not be on a schedule for our honeymoon and because he proposed to me on a cruise.

If you still care to look it up, you can always check out Sandals Resorts. They're pretty decently priced all inclusive resorts. Good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for.

Hi Rachel! My FH and I are getting married June 25th, 2020. We decided to do a cruise for our honeymoon. Both myself and FH have never been on a cruise before. This will be our first cruise together. We booked with Carnival for a 3 night 4 day cruise to Nassau, Bahamas and Half Moon Cay. Our cruise leaves Port Canaveral on June 29th and we return on July 4th, 2020. After the wedding we plan to stay in Orlando over the weekend and then board the ship on Monday.

We took a cruise for our honeymoon and have been on several other cruises. We love Norwegian Cruises and Celebrity Cruises. We have gone on Royal Caribbean and while we liked it, we preferred Norwegian and Celebrity. We have been to the Eastern Caribbean several times so for our honeymoon we went to the Western Caribbean and absolutely loved it. Honestly can't really go wrong in the Caribbean!

We did a 10 day Royal Caribbean cruise and loved it for the honeymoon! It had 5 days at sea, which normally I'd be a little stir crazy but with the wedding stress it was nice to relax. Plus, there is a lot of dining/ entertainment options for free on the boat. One thing I really liked was not having to worry about transportation at all. It made for a very relaxing vacation!

Cruises are so much fun! Do NOT do Carnival Cruise Lines unless you are looking for a “you get what you pay for” experience. I recommend Royal Caribbean all the way! Disney is awesome too if that is your speed! Carnival cruises remind me of spring break and Royal Caribbean is just a nice relaxing time. I’ve been on two Carnival Cruises, that we’re way overcrowded even during hurricane season, and I’m going on a RC cruise next September! I can’t wait!

I think it depends on where you want to go! I've done cruises and resorts and I think if you're going to for tropical/mexico/Caribbean type place, then I would highly recommend a resort. Most of the ports look the same (tropical) and I always feel like i have to get off the ship and explore, when I really would rather just lounge at the beach - plus alcohol is rarely included in the cruise price and can add a lot. So in that sense I like a resort because it has many of the same amenities.

I would highly recommend a cruise if you're thinking something like New England, Mediterranean, Alaska, etc would be more your vibe. You can find SUPER good deals all the time on these and I like a cruise because it's an easy way to see tons of different places and only unpack once!

Sign up for a free account on Travelzoo, apple vacations, prestigcruises, etc - they send lots of emails with awesome deals.

    Good Luck!

I wanted to do a cruise but my FH and I found out that he gets seasick! I would make sure that neither are you are seasick if you decide to go on a cruise. Of course, there are medications and ways to go around that, but I did not want to spend my honeymoon experimenting on these things.

Cruises are great in the aspect that everything is included and right there! However, the downside is that it is pretty close quarters with everyone else and the rooms are not as big as a resort. I would try my best to get a balcony if you can- it is so worth the money!

I have never been to an all-inclusive resort before, but I imagine that you would definitely feel like you have more privacy than you would on a cruise!

Cruising all the way! I’ve done short trips to the Bahamas, Cozumel, and Key west. Most recently though, I did a Mediterranean cruise and then stayed in Rome for a few days after our cruise ended. While enjoying Rome on foot was a dream come true, i gotta say, cruising was very relaxing. As someone said earlier, not having to worry about transportation is Awesome. Having food and drinks readily available and included in your trip will save you lots of money. Waking up in a different place everyday is exciting especially when you’re feeling refreshed.

For honeymoon I recommend a week cruise and Royal has amazing options to different island in the Caribbean’s. Although a cruise price might seem low at first the cost escalates with each port since you’ll get down and do activities. I personally think is less relaxing than a resort having to get down rush out for an excursion and get back on board to do it all the next day. You’ll find yourself paying for each excursion, transportation and food and drink which quickly adds up specially with 3 to 4 destinations. A cruise pool or jacuzzi isn’t really relaxing either not to mention very small so staying on board might not work for the entire length of the cruise. Also keep in mind cruises are all inclusive but does not include alcohol, that is a separate package. The pro is you get to go to multiple places at once while a resort is just one hotel and one destination. Cons of the resort is the flight expense.
