Honeymoon and sick as a dog

Erika, on October 3, 2016 at 9:56 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 20

Today we fly out for our honeymoon which is a ten hour flight! I have so much mucus my stomach is mushy.

I have alka seltzer and a nasal decongestant and emergan-c.

Does anyone have any secrets to feeling better quick??

Burning Vicks vapor rub in a scentsy burner is supposed to clear up congestion

I live by Theraflu, although I prefer homemade over store bought!

It's just a mix of 2 tablespoons of each in an 8-10oz cup of hot water: Honey (I add a tad more for taste), lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, Tylenol/Advil and if your throat hurts, add some cinnamon.

    Hope you feel better!

Load up on some Mucinex DM. It will break up your mucous quickly. Drink gobs of hot tea (green tea with apple cider vinegar and raw honey (sounds gross but works like a charm). I hope you get to feeling better quickly! And at the end of the day, it'll make for an amazing story later. :-)

    Oh no, that is awful!

Hot tea with honey, and drink TONS of water. So much, that you are peeing every hour. Flush it all out!

I'm sure you just need lots of rest, feel better soon!

What time do you fly out? Would you have time to make a quick run to one of those clinics in pharmacies like the Take Care Clinic in some Walgreens or a Redi Clinic? They can prescribe antibiotics and anything else you might need. I go to them alot when I get a bad sinus infection and can't get in to my normal doctor same-day. I've even been given a steriod shot at one and that always helps me to feel better so much faster that oral Rx's. If you don't have one of those nearby, definitely stock up on the strongest mucinex you can get over the counter to take with you, lots of water, and maybe some nasal spray to use temporarily if you are having severe sinus blockage. Honestly, if it were me, I'd even consider going to an urgent care if you had the time and couldn't go to a clinic just to get something to help before your honeymoon. I hope you get some relief!!!!

Get some earplanes earplugs if you're congested. You really don't want that ear pain for 10 hours. Ask me how I know. Smiley sad

Hope you feel better soon! Agree with @Summer about the quick minute clinic. Hopefully, they can prescribe you a Z-pack that would knock it out.

Don't forget antipyretics! If it is something that can't be cured quick and you get a fever, Tylenol and Advil both dosed individually every six hours and timed so that you are taking a dose every three hours. So: T, then three hours later A, then three hours later T, then three hours later A and so on. As a nurse I've seen patients feel so much better using this method with a fever Smiley smile also, go to the take care clinic and see if they think its bacterial, antibiotics work quickly! They can also prescribe nausea medicine in case it comes on the flight. Good luck friend!

MNA- I had an ear infection when I flew down to NC once- it was the worst flight I'd ever been on in my life- and it was less than 3 hours.

I thought I was literally going to die in the air. literally.die.

Feel better sweetie- tea- and lots of water. Take your cold and flu tylenols that will help!! Kara's right- you can cycle through them- and it REALLY helps.

@Jo: It's awful, isn't it?! I've been through it twice, once returning from Orlando, and once on the flight down. DF didn't believe me when I told him it was bad until it happened to him to the return flight that second trip, and he apologized for thinking it was just an earache.

I felt like my ears were going to explode, and like it would have felt BETTER if they had!

We got the Earplanes for our trip to Mexico and had no issues thanks to them. We were both super congested when we left, too.

Ahh that's such unfortunate timing! Hopefully you'll get a good rest on the flight, drink tons of water and feel better Smiley smile

@ mna I had an ear infection once on a trip home from Moscow, Russia... Three flights, 26 hours total travel time. I had to close my eyes and try to meditate basically the entire time because my head felt like it was going to explode. One of the worst days of my life!

I was sick as a dog on my first honeymoon. Gave my new husband the opportunity to take excellent care of me all week, though we missed out on a lot of the stuff we had planned.
