Honeymoon budget

Hi guys! Do you have a set budget for your honeymoon? I feel like with all the spending on the wedding I'm trying to put aside for the honeymoon too but it's a bit challenging. How are you guys balancing spending for both wedding and honeymoon?

Well realistically I think that it’s going to be pretty tight for us. My significant other seems very very confident on the level of side work that he’ll be doing throughout the spring summer and fall before our December wedding so I guess that I just have to have faith and believe that everything will be OK or drive myself crazy with stress... we’re almost half way through 18 months of planning and have mostly always been ahead of schedule so we’re going on the right road

FH and I are paying for our wedding and honeymoon entirely. We set a budget for 10k for our wedding and stayed about 2k under budget. It took a lot of researching on my part but I knew I could do it. My dress was a gift from my mother for my wedding and our rings were not included in this budget. Early on we used booking.com to find an amazing resort to stay in with everything we wanted and we reserved it without payment. Our honeymoon with flights honestly will be about 1/2 of our wedding cost so about $4,200. Our honeymoon was the one thing we didn't hold back on, we pay the room when we check in but FH will be using his CC where he can get good cashback rewards, points, air-miles, etc. Our flights we booked separately because we found amazing first class deals for our departure flight, we paid those upfront. Last week we booked our return flights again with first class tickets because we got an amazing deal. The first time I saw 1st class tickets round trip, they were about $2,000 per person (cheapest) we ended up getting them for $1,200. We have all of the money for our venue and all other major vendors have been fully paid or only have a very small balance left. We won't owe anything on our wedding and between FH and I we can pay that off in no time. We could have paid our honeymoon off but we decided to have that extra cushion in case of anything.

It's all possible just research and explore all possible options.

Alyssa it's great that hes so confident and I understand how you feel it's a lot to plan and put together then budget on top of that. 18months is quite a while to plan so I'm sure everything will turn out great.

We're doing a two week road trip up the coast of California, hitting some favorite spots that we each have but have never been to together. We're super excited - it's very "us." We're airbnb-ing some amazing places!

Before we got engaged we did little side hustles to get some money flow. Then, once engaged we kept it up and added a few more things for side jobs for little money. We didn't set a budget, but we're trying to stick to what we've profited for the most part (about 2k). We're staying stateside, but spending a week near the beach, in an AirBnB and renting a car. Hoping the flight plus all that is around $2k. If you're worried about money and you have some time.. start budgeting, start saving. Sell things in your house you don't need. Babysit kids for date nights..or the Superbowl is coming up! If you're crafty, make crafts to sell. Only go out to eat once or twice a month. There are ways to save..

    Hi Arkilia,

That sounds amazing!! We are looking into a similar trip, which is why I wanted to ask you if you booked this yourself, like online, or did you go through a travel agent? I was looking at one website that has discounted cruise fares, but it doesn't include the flight to Florida, where the ship leaves from. I'm aware that a lot of the cruise lines have specials where you can get extras included, etc. I'm just curious about how you did it? Travel agent? Cruise line website? Some other travel based site?

Educate me, please!!! FH and I have never been on a cruise, and don't have the opportunity to travel much. This is a dream honeymoon for us, so I want to do it right.

    Hi Cristy,
So I literally saw a commercial at work and called my fiance. I booked it online, no travel agent, the deposit was only $100, we upgraded to a balcony. The balance has to be paid by November 2 2019. I am a very organized bride so I made a spreadsheet with all my due dates and I set up a payment schedule.

The flight info isn't available until 90 days out. It's cool too because they have a shuttle that will pick you up from the airport.

We sailing on the Encore which is a new ship that will start sailing in November.

What cruise line are you going with?

We haven't made a final decision on a cruise line yet, but I'm leaning towards Royal Carribbean. Although Norwegian is one of the ones I wanted to research because I've heard good things about them too.

I'm also a very organized bride, so I already have my spreadsheet set up for the wedding expenses. I just need to add the honeymoon stuff to it. I just want us to get the most for our money, so I'm asking everyone how they are booking, and if it's worth it to go through a travel agent. But I'm thinking I can do this myself. Just need to do all the research first. Thanks for the information!!

Did you book through Norwegian's website?

Look for something all inclusive. That way, there’s no surprises when it comes to honeymoon fees. Flowers are super expensive, so maybe an alternative to the bouquets or reducing some of your decor. Cutting down on the list could help too. A honeymoon is important for you both to unwind and enjoy each other after the hectic planning.

Where have you guys decided to go? That's a good idea to have some time between wedding and honeymoon but I'm not sure I would want to go right back to work and then wait for the honeymoon.

Sophie, I love that idea. I have recently started looking at all inclusive like sandals and they seem like a great option.

Mandy I love these ideas. I have already cut back on eating out but doing extra things o the side are a great idea. I will definitely look into that. I have a daughter so babysitting would end up being more of a playdate but thanks for the ideas.

I'm in the same boat as you. Fh and I will be paying for everything so budgeting is super important and we are trying to focus on the wedding so the honeymoon has been almost an after thought but I cant stop thinking about it.

We will be staying at an all inclusive resort in Punta Cana.

Our wedding is at a hotel on Saturday. we will stay at the hotel Saturday night, Sunday night, and maybe Monday night so we will have a long weekend before we go back to work. Unfortunately, we had to choose between, waiting longer for the wedding (he vetoed) or taking a less expensive honeymoon (I vetoed) or having a cheaper wedding. We realistically could not fin anything we would be willing to cheapen so waiting it was.

We are delaying our honeymoon for this very reason. That way we don't have to cut corners from either thing. Wedding now, honeymoon within our first year of marriage so that we have some time to recoup and re-save!

We are anticipating around $1500 for the honeymoon. We're just going to do a four day getaway somewhere. Not sure exactly where but right now the one we seem to be set on is Las Vegas!
