Honeymoon change of plans

Hi ladies 💕

Sorry I’m writing this super late but I just have to get my feelings out because I’m feeling a lot of emotions & to get some other ideas as well. Our wedding is October 2 so it’s coming up. Originally we were going to Greece for our honeymoon and I was so excited because I’ve never been & it’s on my top must visits. However I was recently diagnosed with a disability where I’m no longer walking & I am using a walker/ rollator. I won’t have enough sessions of treatment to where I would feel comfortable doing that trip so we decided to postpone for now. I hate to complain because I know it could be so much worse but It’s not how I pictured or imagined my wedding/ honeymoon happening. Regardless of what I’m going through I still want to make the best of it & enjoy this time celebrating with my soon to be husband! That being said what are some honeymoon destinations in the US you recommend. Please let me know & thank you in advance for the ideas & just letting me vent 🤍🤍

Aw man I see why you would find that upsetting/disappointing:/ I’m kinda in the same boat where My feet are very heat sensitive due to a condition so I can’t go on planes because it could be at any temperature in there and I cannot bear certain temperatures they’re waaay too painful so I didn’t want to risk it. Due to that we also can’t go far🙃 which was disappointing but like you I want to see the bigger picture and have fun regardless with future hubby and what not. We’re going to Catalina Island which is in California! But also thing that Washington and Florida are great options with beautiful views 😅

Im so sorry Miguelina that you won’t be able to make to Greece for your honeymoon. Hopefully you all will be able to go at a later date and really get a chance to enjoy. As far as places in the US I’d say Hawaii is a very nice place to visit for a nice beach and if you’re interested in mountains maybe Utah. And if you like the best of both maybe California has both beaches and mountains. It kinda just depends on where you want to go. Even if you want to do a city, I’d recommend Houston or Chicago. I hope whatever you decide you be sure to enjoy it!

Sorry you're not having your dream honeymoon! We're in a similar situation, we wanted to go to St Lucia, but it just doesn't work out financially or timing wise. So we booked two separate cruises instead (for 1/4 of the total price St Lucia would have been) one the week after the wedding and one 6 months later. We're excited for these too, but the all inclusive adults only resort on an island would have been nice.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having to postpone your Greece trip. Hopefully your treatment sessions will help soon. As far as US honeymoons, it really does depend on what you want. New Orleans is fun and easy to get around (and is more than just Bourbon St./French Quarter), as is Charleston - I haven't been to Savannah, but I hear it's extremely romantic. As far as beaches, the gulf coast of Florida is gorgeous. If you like gambling, but don't want to do Vegas/Atlantic City/etc., you might try Biloxi, MS. If you like mountains, Gatlinburg, TN and the area around is fun and *gorgeous* (especially since you'll be there as the leaves are turning) - really anywhere in the Smoky Mountains.

We Disneymooned, which is a LOT of walking, but they do rent ECVs to make it easier for people to get around.

Hi Miguelina! I totally understand the disappointment. Our honeymoon wasn’t what we originally planned and it was delayed for 11 months, however, we ended up loving it! It also was really nice having to rest up for the honeymoon, thank you notes complete, etc. St. Augustine is very European-inspired and very romantic! All the best to you and may you be blessed with good health very soon! ❤️❤️❤️

Oh man that's a bummer you have been through a lot and never apologize for venting wedding planning is stressful without any additional factors. But remember its not cancelled its just rescheduled you will get there and it will be amazing. As far as trips in the US what are you thinking city, beach, mountains, lakes and what part of the country(do you want to drive, take Amtrak, fly). I love the finger lakes for just a completely laid back relaxing getaway but there are so many places to explore. Key west in Florida, MaryLand, the Delaware Beaches, Hawaii. Maine is beautiful, Boston, the Poconos, Savannah, New Orleans. Keep on smiling and keep on kicking butt in your recovery, you got this! Best of luck to you and happy to help come up with a destination if you need it. Smiley heart

    Hey girlie,

I am so sorry to read what you are going through, I can only imagine how frustrating and how bad of a time this may be for you. But I love how optimistic you seem and trying to make the most of it. My advice would be......TAKE A CRUISE!! Most cruises that start in the states are extremely accommodating to wheelchair users, while at the same time offering you international views. Just like when booking a hotel, make sure your room is up to ADA standards (and more, if possible), like a cabin with wide doorways, large spaces in common areas, and accommodating bathrooms/showers. The perks of doing a cruise include having many options of ship sizes and dock destinations to choose from. Cruises aren’t only physically accessible, but also have helpful staff and doctors that are there to care for any complications...
