Honeymoon conundrum

Jeanie, on March 9, 2021 at 9:49 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 12
Hey all,

My fiancé and I are getting married in the Florida Keys next February. Now here is the tricky part...we own a dive shop so we live and work here! We’d like to go on a honeymoon but it’s not even close to a financial possibility at this point. I know it’s sometimes difficult for people to wrap their minds around the fact that they are on vacation but we are not. We need a change of scenery! We’ve been together five years here, we’ve been through A LOT together from Covid shutdown, multiple boat breakdowns, to hurricanes. We’ve got our home established, it’s also tiny, we really don’t need any “stuff.” How do we politely navigate the thought of “in lue of gifts please consider helping us take a honeymoon”

Don’t register. People will give cash gifts and you can spend it on whatever you want.

It's sometimes not a popular idea, but you could also do a honeyfund. That way you're registering for something, but it's all for something towards your honeymoon. I've seen people who have done hotel room nights, flights, luggage, day passes for things, etc. so you can add a lot onto them. The one downside to it is that I think I've heard they sometimes take a percentage of what you get, but I'm not sure.

As Caytlyn said, just don't register anywhere. If you are doing a bridal shower or Jack and Jill though, people will may ask. We are styling our Jack and Jill as like a stag would be, people give $20 for each ticket and they can play in some of the games but opt out of giving gifts.

You just don't register or make a tiny registry and then people will give money. It's never appropriate to ask for money for anything. Honeyfunds have become popular, but many people find them rude and off-putting.

Yeah I haven’t seen much positive about honeyfund. Definitely won’t be going that route. Thanks

If you don't register, most guests will take that as a hint and bring cash, checks, or gift cards. Another option is setting up a honeymoon fund. The Knot offers one that is free.

Agree with all above, don't register, they'll just give money.

We own our home & everything in it. We only have a honeymoon fund set up- there’s no other registry. When our guests ask if we’re registered anywhere, we tell them it’s only a honeymoon fund. The look on their faces when they realize they don’t have to go shopping or pour over a registry is priceless! They’re so grateful!

Are you using anything specific for a honeymoon fund? I like the idea

We have The Knot as our wedding website & have it set up through them. There’s a picture of a beautiful beach & right underneath that I put “Thank you do much for contributing to our honeymoon fund! With all the craziness of planning our wedding, we’re going to celebrate our marriage in Jamaica!” I’ve had a few guests gift us money & the ease is awesome! I get an email stating that someone has contributed.

We had a registry, AND a honeymoon fund on the Knot. (We did need SOME stuff, but not a ton.)

People also just ignored those and gave us cash/checks.

Couples here have a thing against wedding funds. We used Honeyfund and it was super easy & convenient (for us & guests). The fee they take is tiny.

We created a honeymoon registry on honyfund.com! We set up options such as "A night in a hotel" or "Rental car" with different cost amounts next to each choice. We didn't need more household things, and we are hoping to use the honey fund to get to Europe.
