Honeymoon: Cozy cabin in the mountains or beach resort?

Ashley, on October 4, 2012 at 1:34 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 8

Hey lovelies!

I'm torn between a secluded cabin in the woods (US honeymoon) and a luxurious tropical resort (Caribbean honeymoon). What are the pro's and con's of each? Also, is it impractical to COMBINE them? two trips in one honeymoon??? Am I being ridiculous for considering it? I'm THAT torn!

They both sound dreamy! Have you or FH ever been to the beach or secluded cabin? I'd pick which one you haven't done before. Though, if budget allowed I'd pick both!

We just went to an in-state (Oklahoma) cabin resort for 4 days at the end of summer and loved it, but we are also going on a 7 day cruise to Cozumel and a few other stops over Thanksgiving. So we will have done both. It's definitely going to come down to budget, though! International flights are uber expensive. What are your plans?

Not sure yet, FH is leaning towards cruise but I like the idea of a resort. I don't want to be on anyones time schedule. Cruise sounds fun but being able to stay on the beach all day and chill sounds pretty great to me. I am kinda torn too.

How did you like the cruise to Cozumel? What ship did you use? Any specific pros or cons?

Well, the cruise we are going to go on over Thanksgiving is on the Carnival Magic. It sails out of Houston to Cozumel, Honduras and Belize over 7 days. The only con to doing a honeymoon on a cruise would probably be the kids and the fact that true seclusion just isn't there. Research private yacht cruises. They are small-medium sized luxury yachts specifically for couples that take on no more than 6 passengers, usually. Pretty sure they are a bit less than $$ a cruise on the big cruise line, and you get a tour guide to take you places on the stops down the mexican coastline. My MIL once found a GROUPON for one of these cruises!!! Much more intimate experience and you get roomy suites, gourmet meals and are surrounded by "like-minded couples"

Oh, and you can tack on a short stay at a resort in your starting or destination city before/after the cruise Smiley smile

We were also thinking about doing a cruise but it just wasn't in our budget so we decided on staying at a beautiful bed and breakfast in Lancaster, PA

I agree with Lindy I would pick the one you guys haven't done before! Good luck!

We are going to Key West for 5 days. It is only a 3 hr drive from us, so I get the privacy of a honeymoon without running into family, but close enough that if my son had an emergency I can get back just in case.

I always dreamed of a secluded cabin. That was my dream HM.

We couldn't afford it though and ended up driving and staying in his parents "vacation" house in Nashville. (Actually it was where his mom lived before she moved down to FLA and she's just not sold it yet. But that was lucky for us)

We also considered going on a cruise. I have been on many but DH has never been on a cruise. I wanted him to experience that plus cruises are pretty much all inclusive so it would have been so much better financially.

But our compromise was Nashville. We almost got a cabin in the Smoky Mtns so Nashville was a compromise plus I love love country music and had never been. We had a blast.
