I think you only really need to worry about hurricanes if you'll be in one spot the whole time. Hurricane season is great for vacations, cruises ESPECIALLY-- because you can get rocking deals on bookings that other people are avoiding!

And, the ships are well equipped with radar to steer you far away from anything like that.

I can't help with the warm part, we are getting a cabin in the mountains in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area.

The Caribbean will definitely still be warm, actually pretty hot (mid 80's - 90's), in September. Don't worry about hurricane season, as most places never take a direct hit. That is usually the best time to find deals on travel as PP's have stated.

We're doing a long weekend somewhere neither of us has ever been like skiing in Denver, touring Boston (which I heard is beautiful in the fall), or Vegas.

September is actually my favorite time to travel to both Mexico and the Caribbean islands! Tempertures are more mild than in the summer. Many people are scared off by the threat of hurricane season, so you will not experience the crowds and higher prices that you may see in the summer and winter months. If the threat of a hurricane does concern you, I suggest looking at Aruba. This beautiful and safe island is below the hurricane belt and is rarely affected by storms. I have traveled to the Caribbean many times and have not been affected by weather; but no matter what time of year you travel, I always suggest purchasing travel insurance in case your trip is interrupted. Good luck and congratulations!!
