We're getting married on September 29th and with me being a teacher, we simply are not able to take a honeymoon right away. Originally we planned on taking our honeymoon the next summer, but we don't really want to wait that long, and my fiancé REALLY wants to go somewhere warm...I don't do very well in temps above 80.

We've started considering going to New Orleans over Christmas--I get a week off from school, he can take time whenever, and the average temp. in December is definitely something I could handle.

Has anyone taken their honeymoon over Christmas? Did you regret missing the first Christmas as "family" with your loved ones, or was it nice to spend it just the two of you? Any other big things to consider?

Depends on your family I guess. I’m totally not into Christmas so I’d love to fly away at that time. I think if both you and FH want to go at that time then go for it! I don’t think your family will die if you’re not there Smiley winking even though some might act like that’s the case.

This is only kind of relatable, but we took a family vacation over Christmas two years ago and it was great! We still took like a day to spend with family beforehand.

FWIW I’m in Wisconsin, I too only associated Florida with Disney and gators, no joke! Really had no desire to go there. But in planning our vacay we googled “warmest place in continental US in February” and came up with Miami! So we vacationed in Miami Beach in February, also drove through the Everglades to the other side of the state to Marco Island. And I found out I LOVE Florida. Absolutely love. You can swim in the ocean unlike CA where it’s so cold, the beaches are gorgeous, I recommend giving it a shot!

Thanks for sharing your experience! If we can find a way to do it affordably it will definitely be in the running.

Just another FYI, our flight from MSP to Miami was only $50 (plus $20 baggage) with United. We always stay in Airbnbs which are a lot cheaper than hotels (and we think are way more fun) but I know not everyone is into that. I know Key West is more expensive.

I wouldn't care about the family stuff, but holiday travel is way more expensive. It can be double or more. Is that worth it to you?

How funny! I'm a teacher and getting married September 28, 2019. As of right now we are planning our real honeymoon either February vacation or summer. We are trying to plan a long weekend somewhere warm as well. Thinking Nashville or Arizona but no definite plan yet! Best of luckSmiley smile
