Honeymoon Flights?

Courtney, on August 22, 2019 at 8:06 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 12
Who are you flying with? I've been talking to a TA about flights to Jamaica for our honeymoon next year and she has found a nonstop flight from New Orleans to Jamaica.

The thing is it is with a charter flight called Swift Air. I looked up the reviews on TripAdvisor and most of them are bad. It says flights are delayed and luggage is lost. My FH has flown several times before being in the military, but this will be my first flight experience and I would prefer for it to be a good one.

I looked on Expedia and saw where AA has a flight going there for same dates and it is only $20 more than the charter flight. On TripAdvisor, they have mixed reviews. They will make one stop in Miami.

Just looking for advice.... wondering if any of you have flown with a charter flight like that or who you are flying with.... Thank you!!

I've never flown on a charter plane before, but I'd imagine it's not bad! I've done a lot of traveling throughout my life, and my favorite airline is Delta with American Airlines being second. I've always had great experiences with both of them. American Airlines is usually cheaper, though, so that's who I usually fly with. We're flying to Turks and Caicos on American Airlines. We have a layover in Charlotte for 2 hours, (not many airports fly direct into TCI) but the whole trip is only a total of 5 hours. I'd check Google Flights for flight costs as well! They search all airlines' websites (except Southwest as they don't allow 3rd parties to sell their flights) and some of the budget sites to let you find the best deals on days/times. I've saved a lot of money using it, and that's the site that companies like Scott's Cheap Flights uses to find deals for people.

We fly several times a year and ALWAYS fly American Airlines. I've never had any issues with American (but I'm also not a picky traveler). We are flying AA for our honeymoon to the Bahamas in January.

I will say that I've flown Delta and United which were not good experiences. Delta was the absolute worst and I will never fly Delta again unless I REALLY have to.

I've also flown British Airways which was the best flight I've ever had...but that was an international trip.

I almost always fly American, but I live near Philadelphia which is a hub. Couple of things to keep on mind. If you book Americans cheapest fare, you could have problems getting new flights if they cancel your original flight, and you can’t select your seats until check in. So I always book the next level up, as it’s worth the extra $50 to me to have that piece of mind. Also make sure you know the baggage fees. Some airlines charge for even a carry on now, so it looks like the charter is cheaper up front but it may be more expensive once you account for bags. Also, larger planes tend to be smoother flights in my opinion. Just make sure you do your research!

I would not fly international with one of the discount airlines. Like spirit, you may save a lot, but the risk of major headache is high and they charge for everything.

We fly from New Orleans to Jamaica on Southwest, but it's not direct.

My fiancé travels for work and he flys almost daily. so we are flying Southwest as that is our fav airline. He also flys delta and AA he likes AA and has had a few problems but he’s also been flying for 6 years and has had problems with almost every airline. AA is good though! He’s never flown with swift air so I can’t say anything for them.

My dad has flown a lot for work, and tried out several airlines. Because of that, we've only flown Delta for the last 5ish years. We've never had issues with luggage or flights being delayed or anything like that. And it's usually pretty easy to find options for flights on just about any day.

I'd go with American, but you have to realize every airline has problems. I think AA will be a smoother flight than the Swift Air, but you could still have flight delays, cancellations, etc. I recently had a really bad experience with AA, but I'm giving them a second chance.

It just really worries me that I looked up this airline on Trip Advisor and there were like 330 reviews. There were only a handful of positive ones.

My BIL works in Wyoming and he had to fly home. He flew with Spirit Airlines and he said never again.... it was an awful flight.

I understand that all airlines have issues, but I am just really concerned. This will be my first time flying and I would like to have a good experience if I could help it.

We are flying Delta (only direct flight to Cancun) personally I'm not picky I haven't had a bad experience with one flight company compared to another.

Yep, you'll have to wait until 6 months out when they release dates. We need March 15 so I was bummed their release didn't go that far.
