Honeymoon fund

Becky, on July 8, 2019 at 9:17 AM Posted in Registry 0 21
We have decided not to do a registry as we are both are in our 40’s and don’t need household items. We thought about doing a honeymoon fund but wasn’t sure how to do it. Anyone have any suggestions as to what sites to use or how to set it up? Thanks.

Do you already have a wedding website? I'm using Zola for RSVPs and details and I think it has a honeymoon fund.

We are using minted for our wedding website. I will check with them if they offer a honeymoon fund. Thanks!

We did both. We have our own house. But there’s definitely stuff we can “update” so we created two small ones and the knot has a honeymoon fund since we have a few people ask about it specifically. I would suggest looking around. They all take fees, from what I found. We decided to go with the knot because the guest pays the fee instead of us.

Ours is through Zola, and since our wedding website is also through them we found it very easy to link to our registry. Make sure you're picking a site with minimal fees - for Zola and The Knot, the only fee is the credit card transaction fee and the company does not make any profit off the honeymoon fund. Zola lets you decide if you or the guest pays the credit card transaction fee, which is nice (and I think The Knot does as well?). We broke the honeymoon fund registry into lots of smaller cash funds for our lodging, meals, and various excursions (wine tasting, whale watching, etc.) so that people can have a better idea of what their money is going to.

We also have a couple of small registries at Macy's and Crate & Barrel for guests who feel weird about giving money - maybe there are a few nicer items you'd like to get to replace things you currently have?

I’m using minted for my wedding website and Zola for my registry. It is easy to link the two. Like other posters, I did a combination honeymoon fund and some physical gifts to upgrade items. Zola let’s you take the fee out of the amount given from the gifter, so they don’t pay extra and your not technically paying it either.

If you're not doing a registry, why do you need a honeymoon fund? If you don't have a registry, people will give you cash. If you have a honeymoon fund, they will give you cash, but part of it will be taken by the honeymoon fund.

That’s exactly what I thought! I never even thought of doing a registry or a honeymoon fund until someone asked me this morning for my honeymoon fund webpage. I was thrown off and then thought maybe I was missing something! Thank you for your response!

Just curious why you think people wouldn't do both? Don't most people give a shower gift AND a wedding gift? I always do when I go to a wedding. The honeymoon fund is in lieu of the shower gift.

This isn't true in all circles, many people will just get the bride and groom a gift they think the couple will like if the couple doesn't register. At least if there's a honeymoon fund the bride and groom are less likely to get 7 instapots!

I'm using WeddingWire for my website and added Honeyfund.com to my registry so guests can pay for whatever they want for my honeymoon, whether its $20 to the hotel or $100 to plane tickets, it's all one click. It's super easy to set up too!

Typically, people who just want money (and a honeymoon fund is just money; it's not actually limited to excursions on the honeymoon) don't have showers. Much of the entertainment at a shower is opening tangible gifts, so the purpose goes away if everyone is giving the same thing.

I beg to differ. Just went to a shower 3 weeks ago where they also requested a honey fund. Only one person showed up with a gift and PLENTY of people contributed to the honey fund.

Thank you all for all your feedback! It’s so good to hear different views and ideas and really helps to make good decisions. We decided to register at Target and do a honeymoon fund with either Zola or Honey Fund.

We are doing the same. I took the "gifts/registry" page of the wedding website and changed it to honeymoon fund, with a link to paypal. The guest clicks on the link and can then make a contribution that goes into our account Smiley smile

We had a similar issue and after making a few different ones I made us one on Zola that was awesome because it lets you make your own "items". Were definitely going on a cruise for our honeymoon but this gives guests the option to give us little upgrades, etc. My friends that know about it loved the idea. It also allowed us to add a few random things we wouldn't have purchased ourselves, like 'hubby wifey' shirts we will wear on the cruise.

We researched all of them and went with Honeyfund. The link is on our minted wedding site along with Macy’s and Duke Cancer Donation registries. We gave several options: one traditional, one for experiences, and one for charity.
