Honeymoon Fund/cash Registry

Stephanie, on July 14, 2019 at 2:46 PM Posted in Registry 1 6

Since the thread I saw on here was from 2011, I'll start a new one.

For anyone not doing a traditional registry, have you included paypal/venmo button or email on your wedding website?
Our website FAQ page currently reads: Q. Are you registered? Where?A. Rather than a traditional registry, we are building up a honeymoon fund.
Some friends suggested using the cash fund feature on the website (but it takes 2.5%) or including paypal/venmo info. Is that odd or is that just the world we live in now?
Appreciate honest comments/advice/experiences - no judgments or bickering necessary (see 2011 tread on this).
Thanks all!Stephanie

I would find it very strange if someone put paypal/venmo info on their wedding website. We didn’t have a honeymoon fund but pretty much everyone gave us cash or a check in a card. That’s what I’ve seen at weddings I’ve attended as a guest as well.

You don’t need to mention that you would prefer money. Everyone knows that cash is a good gift without being told. I think asking guests to PayPal or Venmo you their wedding gift is super rude and cash funds are a waste since, like you said, they take a portion of the gift. I would just not register and guests will default to cash or check gifts.

We will have a honeymoon fund. If anyone pays towards whatever is there, cool. If not, that's ok too because it's obviously not mandatory but if we do end up getting any cash/checks, we could easily still put that towards whatever we will have on our list. I definitely agree though, it does seem a bit pushy/rude to include your paypal/venmo on your website and a cash fund just wouldn't make any sense at all since there will be a percentage taken out.

Hey Stephanie! Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the WeddingWire community! Have you decided where you would like to go on honeymoon?

As the pps mentioned, I would avoid adding PayPal, etc. to your wedding website. If it is clear on your site that you have not registered anywhere, guests understand that a cash gift is preferred. If you would like, you could always ask your parents/close family/friends to spread the word if someone asks them what you would like as a gift.

Appreciate all the comments. We decided that our friend who asked is the exception not the rule and that although it would be easier, it just looks bad. I think we'll add our honeymoon location in case people are interested but that's all. Thanks everyone!

Would each guest have to create a login/account before they could send a money gift?
