Honeymoon Hair Help! African American Brides.

Alicia, on March 9, 2018 at 1:27 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 34

We're going to Punta Cana for our honeymoon and I have no idea what I want to do with my hair. Below is what it normally looks like. I don't get relaxers, but I do straighten it on a weekly basis. I don't know how to wear it naturally, I can never get a good consistent look. I kinda don't want to do my hair every day on the honeymoon but I don't know what else to do. For the wedding I wasn't going to get any extensions and I don't want to sit in a salon for hours the day before the honeymoon getting my hair braided.

Should I get a sew-in and have that for the wedding/honeymoon? Would a sewed on wig work? I'm just not sure what would be my best option that's not box braids. Help me please. What are you doing or what did you do?

Go for two cornrows extensions. Quick, easy and low maintenance. Best of luck.

Hey Hun! My advice is a full sew in, something curly like Brazilian deep wave will be good for the water...I hope this helps hun. Enjoy ounta Cana!

You have plenty of options: flat twists/braids, pin curls, goddess braid/ twist, chunky two strand twists at night to give off beach waves during the day, wear a cute/colorful head wrap or beach hat.

Is your honeymoon immediately after the wedding? If not, you have time to get some feed-in braids which are quick. Mine is immediately after the wedding and I’ll most likely do textured clip-ins for the wedding and then remove them for our Jamaican honeymoon. The clip-ins are pretty versatile. I would look into those.

What about Senegalese twists? They are small then braids and can be style easier an more elegant. Just my opinion

You can also consider crochet braids. I’ve attached a pic of one of my crotchet styles. It’s Half the time of getting box braids. I have/had a pixie cut now letting it grow out for the wedding. Still undecided on how to wear it for the wedding day. I initially said no to extensions but I decided I would. We’re leaving 2 weeks later to FL to set sail to Jamaica and Cayman Islands. I’m keeping my extensions in.

Since you said you were not planning on getting extensions for your wedding, I think your best option would be a wig that can be sewn on. It can give you the versatility you need if you didn’t want extensions for your wedding it will also protect your natural hair. I am a stylist and whenever I go on a trip my go to Hair is a natural looking wig.

Yeah, I was thinking I’ll leave it out in a sleek puff or twists, which I can style myself. I just don’t want to have a lot of extra hair on me in the heat. I was also thinking about getting my hair braided while I’m down there.

Do you think a sew on wig would be better then a full frontal sewin? I'm just worried about the wig or frontal pulling back after it gets wet bc I've had that issue when I've washed it when installed.

My last vacation I did feed in cornrows. It only took an hour to get done and it was pretty cute in my opinion lol and zero maintenance. I just put the braids in a bun when I went swimming and had them hanging down at other times. I’ve never had a sew in but I’d assume it would take even longer to go that route and it would still require some maintenance depending on the hair you choose. Can I ask which resort you guys chose in Punta Cana? We are looking at resorts there also.

Did they stay tight during the vacation? I worry about them loosening being in the water. We chose Sanctuary Cap Cana, adults only, a must. The reviews are amazing and it looks beautiful. I went through booking.com and got a beachfront castle suite for 2700 for 7 nights.

Thanks! I’ll check that one out. We definitely want adults only also and that’s a good price! I got the braids done on Wednesday and didn’t leave until the following Monday because that was the only day the person I wanted to do my braids was available so by the time I got back they were almost two weeks old so they did loosen but I don’t think they looked tooo raggedy just not as cute by the end. The pictures are from the day I got them done (5 days prior to vacation) and 15 days later when I took them out (3 days after vacation). If you can find someone to do it for you on Sunday before you leave you should be good. Just bring a small amount of edge control to slick down your edges and a scarf to tie them down at night. I got lazy and didn’t smooth mine down but that helps it keep looking neat. For my honeymoon I haven’t decided but I’ll either get braids again or wear my hair natural and spend time doing it every day.

I am getting crochet braids like the pp above, I was going to do that, a u part wig or some clip ins because my honeymoon is the day after my wedding. I think a u part wig would work for you so you can have minimal leave out.

    The style I will have

If you don't have time to get it braided up I suggest a lace front. Just sew it on after the wedding.

I actually didn’t do s sew in and I didn’t wear my natural curls, although I was prepared. My hair girl put a serum in the day before my wedding and told me it would keep me from getting frizzy in case I sweat. I spend five days in the Bahamas and not once did my hair get frizzy. It was a serum from Aveda that she used and I would have never imagined my hair not growing rapidly after being in humid weather. I even got in the ocean water for a bit, of course not getting my hair wet, but still it stayed straight. I’m completely natural so no relaxers in the last 15 years.

I am natural and trying to decide for honeymoon too...how did you wash this after you got out of the water? Was it easy to wash hair with these braids?

I didn’t really get my hair wet until the end of the trip. When I did I just rinsed my hair. You can wash your hair while in braids but don’t try scrubbing because you may snap some of your hair strands. Just apply shampoo gently rub and rinse. You can also use Apple cider vinegar to cleanse your scalp. The more you wash it, the shorter the style will look good.

I’m getting married in September, and we’re going to Punta Cana for our honeymoon.
I’m getting a sew-in weave with a little hair left out so it looks natural. I will be able to wash my hair and put it into a ponytail and bun for the honeymoon.

i hope this helps. Good luck!
