Honeymoon Help!!!!! I have no idea what I'm doing.

Ashley, on May 10, 2015 at 1:38 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 40

We are getting married on Oct 3rd this year. We decided on a short engagement and are so excited to tie the knot sooner. However, even though we are having a very small wedding it still costs money. What is a good number for a tropical honeymoon?

And where should we go or think about?

I hear St Lucia is beautiful but those resorts can get very pricey. I would want to spend no more than 4,000-5,000 but is that doable for something like that?

Looking to go for at least 4/5 days.

    It really is doable! We're having a 7 month engagement and a small wedding (about 50ppl) and our 1 week hm in Mexico is costing us around $2,600 all-inclusive (tickets, food, room, drinks, etc.). We used a travel agent so I would recommend getting one because they make it so much easier to plan--and with your budget you can have a beautiful luxurious hm. Smiley smile

    I would work with a travel agent. We gave ours our budget and he suggested locations from there.

    I've been to Jamaica tons of times and each time its been around $1000 (or less) for direct flights and a week. So super nice, so super cheap! I strongly suggest you look that direction.

    ETA- I've also been to St. Lucia and paid a small fortune to vacation there... it's not THAT much better than the other islands (I've been to probably 10 or 12 of the islands)

    We spent about $4000 including flights are going to Barbados. We picked Barbados because it will be during hurricane season and Barbados sits below the hurricane belt. Wherever you choose look into how many times the island has had a near hit or direct hit during October.

    A lot of people are adamantly opposed to Mexico for some reason, but FH and I are going there for 7 days and 6 nights for $3078 including airfare and everything we'll need. We're going to Secrets Capri Riviera Maya. The average temperatures and amount of rain are awesome in October (or at least that's what I found on google!). When FH and I booked our honeymoon, weather had me very concerned because places like Jamaica, it rains 18 days on average during October; it's about 6/month in Riviera Maya.

    Thats totally do-able!! We looked at adult-only, all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana and ended up booking Riviera Maya, Mexico but both vacations for 8 days/7 nights including round-trip flights were right in your price range!

    Dominican Republic and Mexico are both very affordable! As is Costa Rica and Belize if you look around enough. Cuba would be a cool option too, as I believe Americans can now visit. It's a beautiful country and VERY cheap to visit.

    Definitely look into cruises. In October, they're pretty cheap and if you wait until crucon.com does a special on free drinks, that really minimizes the costs. FH and I went on a cruise in January for about 2,000 and hit a bunch of the islands. Our honeymoon is a cruise up the pacific west coast from San Diego to Vancouver and were lying around $3,600. Just search deal websites.... Groupon, living social, crucon, travelzoo... They're all great.

    We booked through cheapcaribbean.com and got 8 nights in an upgraded VIP room at Excellence Punta Cana for just short of $5k. We went in January so it was prime pricing, but it was awesome. I've heard St. Lucia is among the more expensive islands. Punta Cana was a great time. Jamaica and Mexico are also very affordable.

    We're going to Couples Resort San Souchi, Jamaica we booked through Orbitz. 7 days, all inclusive and air for under $2100 including taxes. I've seen quite a few people on WW post that they've been there and they all loved it.

    We just got back from St. Lucia and LOVED it. However, we stayed at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian and spent more than $5000 for 6 nights. You are going during the rainy/hurricane season, though so I'd recommend the more southern islands like St. Lucia, Barbados, Antigua etc. since they are hardly ever hit by hurricanes. Keep in mind though that it's a longer travel time to get that far south, so you would probably want to stay longer than 4 days to keep the travel time worth it to go there.

    You have some good suggestions here, but nearly all of the islands outside of the hurricane belt are also really expensive for the most part. We are going to Costa Rica. Have you considered a cruise?

    We LOVE the Caribbean as well as Central and South America, and would have given anything to have our wedding and/or honeymoon in down there, but it's hurricane season until the end of November. Although you'll get a great deal, you may be in the rain the whole time. Check out the Groupon or LivingSocial deals for your fav locations!

    Also, we spent about $3,100 TOTAL for a 10-day trip to Athens, Santorini and Mykonos at the end of August/first part of September... just a thought! Still tropical and Mediterranean but without the possible hurricanes!

    @annakay511

    FH and I almost booked that same resort for the week before your wedding. I heard great things about it but we eventually decided to go elsewhere... for what reason I cant remember. lol

    @MG

    I agree with the travel agent advice. I am one who likes to plan EVERYTHING! Like, everything! Using a travel agent was so easy. You just give him/her your budget and possible locations and they do all the leg work for you and you just pay them directly. Super easy and stress-free! Smiley smile
