Honeymoon Ideas

Lorraine, on October 30, 2020 at 9:15 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 11
I have just gotten engaged, we are aiming for a 2022 wedding. I've discussed honeymoon ideas with my fiance before but we keep changing our minds. We do not want anything grand. Anywhere we go we generally have a good time just being together. We do not fly. The destination should be driving distance of a max 12 hours from Westchester County, NY, but the closer, the better. Our main goal would be to relax and enjoy being with each other so we do not need a destination with a million things to do. Good food is important.
We have thought about Bar Harbor, Maine, Nova Scotia, the Poconos, and Charlotte, NC (he likes racing cars so the Poconos and Charlotte have NASCAR driving experiences, but that is not essential).
The reason we keep changing our minds is because everyone says your honeymoon should be one of, if not the most, fabulous vacation of your life. But we are just not into traveling. Please help lol.

Oh girl. Your honeymoon does not need to be anything extravagant if you don’t want it to be. We live in TN and we are renting a cabin in Gatlinburg (2 hour drive from our house) for three nights, then driving to Myrtle Beach (5 hour drive) for three nights. We just wanted something we can relax and enjoy each other’s company. We don’t fly, or like traveling that much minus a day trip here and there, so if y’all are more comfortable staying in and relaxing then do it!! Don’t feel like you need to do something extravagant if you don’t want to. Congrats on the engagement though!!!!

Thank you!! We actually considered staying in Gatlinburg when we were looking at Charlotte, NC. I don't feel a ton of pressure to do something too extravagant, but it has made me reconsider the Poconos. That was THE place to go around here for a honeymoon back in my grandma's time, but now it's a place where a lot of people go for weekend trips. So I was thinking maybe we want to go somewhere a little more interesting and different. But that's why I need the ideas! Lol

Oh that looks great! And there's a resort there. That's exactly the type of thing we'd be looking for. Thank you!

I wouldn't be dead set on a location 2 years out. Things can change with the pandemic and I've seen several couples change their mind about where to go several times when its two years out or longer.

I agree with previous person. We didn’t lock in our honeymoon until a year out. We love to travel so flying is no big deal to us. Kick around all the wonderful ideas that have been presented to you. You have time to decide & then change your mind!

I'm not trying to decide on something today. I'm trying to get ideas to think about.

We recently spent a week in Gatliburg, TN and absolutely loved it. It took us about 13 hours from eastern CT, so probably 11ish hours from Westchester.

I also recently attended a bachelorette in the Poconos and it was awesome. I also think the fact that it was THE place to honeymoon in your grandma's day is kitchy and fabulous haha.

Portland, Maine and Newport, RI have great food and are really fun.
