Honeymoon in Hawaii (HELP)

AD2AP, on February 21, 2017 at 4:01 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 16

Can a honeymoon in Hawaii be done for under $5,000? We would be leaving from Detroit MI.

I would talk to a travel agent. We are going to Hawaii for our honeymoon. We are doing five days in Honolulu and then taking a 7 day cruise around the islands. We used hilton rewards points so we are not paying for the 5 nights in the hotel but just with the cruise and airfare we are at about $5k not including food and things to do. That is purely the cruise and the airfare for both of us.

Possibly. Looks like flights from Detroit to Honolulu (usually the cheapest island to fly to) is about ~$1,650 to $2,000 for 2 people depending on the time of year. If you're cool with a budget hotel, it could most likely be done.

We are getting married in June, but taking our honeymoon to Kauai in September because it is a lot more affordable to go then.

I was also thinking of maybe looking at some all inclusives because I think its cheaper that way. not sure though.

We are going to Kauai for 8 nights (flying from Minneapolis) and staying at a pretty nice hotel. The flights/hotel came to $3500. We bought when tickets were super cheap though, like $625 each.

I think we will easily spend another $3,000 on food and activities. It's spendy once you get there.

Also - there aren't really all inclusives on Hawaii. I think there might be one, but that's it.

ETA: The $3500 also includes car rental - a convertible woooooooo.

@anne I was looking at kayak and they were offering some, I wonder if that's a scam then.

I wasn't thinking the $5,000 would include food or stuff when we get there, I was just hoping it would include airfare, hotel & car.

Sign up for the Hawaiian Airlines newsletter thing, they do great airfare sales. FH and I have gone to 3 islands the last 3 years and will be going again in Sept/Oct for our honeymoon and its always been around $2,000 for flight and the hotel for 2 weeks.

Definitely. I've done it in that price range several times. Use Airbnb or get a condo. Then go to Costco when you touch down to buy your food Smiley smile You can save a lot if you just do a cheap little car because most tourists want convertibles, jeeps, etc. Go in the off season for cheaper tickets.

@Future - Oh yeah that's not what I was thinking when you said all inclusive.

Our's was "all inclusive" if you just mean airfare, hotel and car. $3500 for 8 nights!

ETA: Flights have gone up significantly since we purchased, however.

It may be tough. We just booked our flights for Maui in June. They were $1,000 each. Coming from California.

Depends on what you want to do. If you're looking for a more adventurous/affordable option, look for a condo to rent. Then you can go to the grocery store for breakfast/lunch stuff and you'll save some money.

Possibly. June is going to be more expensive for flying because it's summer. Shop around and see if you would be willing to wait until end of summer. Flights get a lot cheaper. Hotel prices vary as well in different seasons. Airbnb is usually a more cost effective option. As far as activities. Rent snorkel gear for the week and just swim out. You will see plenty. Hiking and swimming in waterfalls is free.

Keep in mind that some hotels have pricey "resort fees" and parking.

We're going to Kauai. We've already paid for our plane tickets which were $1000 round trip each out of Chicago (also includes our rental car). We've booked our hotel for about $2000. And we also have about $2000 set aside for spending right now. We're also hoping to put more aside just to be safe. So can you do it for $5000? Maybe. But you're probably cutting it close.

We looked into going a few months ago.

@Bethyonce....what airport are you leaving from? We were looking at LAX or San Fran to Maui-OGG and it was about $550 each on Hawaiian Airlines.

I think it can be done for under $5000 but Anne was right, there aren't very many all inclusives in Hawaii because they can get people to come without offering there. There are also a lot more locals there. If you look at condos, they run about $100 a night for basic ones but there is usually at $200 cleaning fee. It still makes it cheaper then most resorts though. If you have a Costco membership, look into their packages for excursions and rental cars and dining packages. Condos give you the option to cook a lot more meals and if you research what your interested in, you can select an island and find amazing Luaus for Dinner(They are pretty costly).
