honeymoon in jamaica or bahamas. Is sandals price worth it?

bridetobe190, on February 17, 2015 at 1:01 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 10

Hi all, So im getting married in july and going on honeymoon straight after. i have narrowed it down to either Jamaica or the Bahamas in the Sandals resorts but the quotes i got are extremely high. Jamaica is coming in at $5400 CAD and the bahamas is close to $7000. This is for one week, all inclusive (flights, hotel, transfers, food/drinks etc) Now i dont mind paying for luxury as its our honeymoon but i have been told by a previous honeymooner that these are outrageous prices. Is this true in any of your opinions or is it just because its Sandals? Is sandals worth it? i want luxury for my honeymoon and dont want to be dissapointed if i end up paying all this money for one week. HELP!

I have never been to the Sandals in Jamaica but I have a friend that has. She and her husband say it's well worth the money given the upgrades and adult only features. FH and I stayed at Grand Palladium and enjoyed ourselves but so did my friend and they still say Sandals is worth the extra money

We are going to Antigua in 28 days to get married at Sandals Antigua, our flights alone were $780/piece so $1560. We are going for 6 nights and our room was $4301 for Suite level. So, airline plus room was aprox $6000. (this does not include any of our wedding items since we are also getting married there). I will let you know how it was when i get back but i would say it is average for luxury resort.

We honeymooned at Sandals St Lucia at the Halcyon resort which was the cheapest option of the 3 in St Lucia. It was the oldest of the 3 resorts and it showed the wear but we also saved about $1500 over the higher priced resort.

In my opinion, it was a fantastic honeymoon experience because its a couples only resort and you mainly have honeymooners there. They cater to honeymooners and everything is included.

We did the concierge suite and I would have to say it was worth it because of the suite location.

    Good Luck

I feel like Sandals is pricey, but people that I know that have been there said that it's well worth the price. If it's within your budget, I would try it if I were you! My brother went to Couples Swept Away and had the time of his life with his wife. I would definitely suggest looking into the Couples resorts just as a comparison. He paid around $3500 and added on some additional things like horseback riding and candlelit dinner on the beach. The stories he has told and the pictures/videos of the resort that he took make it look absolutely amazing and just as luxurious as Sandals (at least in my opinion)!

I am just wondering if those quotes for Jamaica are per person or for the two of you??

I've book my wedding in Jamaica at an all inclusive resort and we were planning on switch resorts for the second week and just extending our stay for the honeymoon. The travel agent said it was going to be $8,000 to stay at the Riu and then switch to Couples (total for the two of us). That's insane, definitely cannot afford that plus all the wedding costs.

We went to Jamaica but stayed at Secrets St James in Montego Bay. We absolutely loved it and felt it was well worth the money. I'm not sure what the price was but it doesn't sound drastically different than the prices you were quoted (converting to US dollars). We upgraded to the club level and added some excursions but I would definitely do it again, especially since it was couples and adults only.

I know someone who got married in Jamaica and stayed for their honeymoon at Couple's...I think she said it was closer to 4000 for them both combined. She absolutely loved it, it did include liquor, a handful of restaurants, plus some activities, and tips were strictly not allowed. If you're thinking Jamaica, this might be a better option, but I don't know anyone who's used Sandals. And I've never tried any personally! Good luck

The Sandals Bahama's is a brand new resort, that's why it is decently more than the resorts in Jamaica. Also, because it would be a more desirable area. We were looking at Sandals in Jamaica and we could've gotten the best room available honeymoon sanctuary, yata yata yata and it was around $5000 for everything. I started looking at St. Lucia and it was more for upgraded rooms because it's a more desirable island and flights were more. I would decide where you want to go more and your budget to see what will work for you.

With that said, I am very honest and can tell you that there are other great resorts as well, such as Secrets Resorts which someone mentioned. What I like to do is find out what is important for my clients, what they like to do, are you looking for the absolute best beach, are you wanting to do adventure tours, what you both want from your honeymoon and fit the right resort to your personalities. Of course keeping within your comfortable budget so your happy with your decision. There should be no reason you can't find that perfect match. Good luck with all your wedding planning and have fun doing it. Btw, Jamaica is an amazing island with lots of really fun tours and I can't say enough about the people of Jamaica. Here is a link to check out some of the fun things to do both in Jamaica and Bahamas, this sometimes can help in choosing a destination as well. Keep in mind, it depends on the time of year your honeymooning, watch that the Bahamas can be a bit seasonal and cooler in some months.
