Honeymoon... Is this so lame?

As much as my FH and I would love to do Hawaii, we're already having trouble finding funds for our own wedding so as an alternative honeymoon I was considering spending a week in San Diego since we love it so much.. Any other brides out there do non-exotic honeymoons?

Yeah that sounds like fun ... Smiley smile If we go with our latest idea we'll drive to the College Football Hall of Fame, the Baseball Hall of Fame and then swing down to the Smokey Mountains for a couple of days (yeah the fall foilage will not be very impressive this early in October) and stop in Busch Gardens (Williamsburg) for a night or two and then come home

We used www.vrbo.com for a rental in Hawaii. The whole bridal party stayed there. It was $280 per night for 3 bedrooms and a sofa bed. Plus pool and hot tub with a sunset view of the ocean. They have rentals all over. Worth looking into.

I love San Diego. It has the beach and the ocean, it has Coronado Island that makes for a great day trip or over-night trip, it has beautiful areas to walk round (at night), it has a fantastic wild life park and Sea World, if you like sports they have great sports teams, in my opinion it is one of the most romantic cities in America.

We are actually going to drive the coast of California making stops at amusement parks and zoos and stuff. I've never been there and FH grew up there, plus we live in Hawaii so we want to get away. I think doing something like San Diego now would be a great idea and you can always come to Hawaii at a later time for an anniversary.

We are going to the east coast and spending some time in boston, cape code, martha's vineyard, and NH. we are getting married in june and Gary was a heat causality in Iraq so he can't be in weather that is super hot and he has never been to the east coast. i love boston and have never been to the cape or the vineyard or NH...so it works perfectly. hawaii is fab and a constant 80 degrees but he was there with his ex wife and i was there with an ex bf so we wanted something of our own...

There is nothing lame about that. My brother and his wife drove up PCH for their honeymoon. We'll be going to Vegas for a few days. A honeymoon is all about you and your sweetie being alone together, whether it be on a cruise, in HI, or even in a tent.

If it means a free stay in Hawaii I'll do it anyway! plus I'm awesome with kitties and all things furry! Smiley winking

You'll love San Diego! Check out San Fransisco for me, I hear it is awesome! But don't walk alone and be careful walking around at night.. LA is muggy.. but if you go any farther up north, I'd say stop by Redding because the weather is generally nice and there is a river there where if you sit on the ledge of the dock, you can see giant salmon swimming beneath your feet.

We couldn't afford a super nice HM so we are renting a cabin up in the mountains about an hour away. We'd like to go on a cruise for our 1 yr anniversary but I think as long as you have a fun time together it doesn't matter.

We are going to Hershey Park for our honeymoon. we both love it there and our funds are really tight too.. plus we have a baby girl and dont want to go too far away from home for too long, 3 days is going to be hard enough to be away from her. people think its a joke we are going there for our honeymoon but its what we want!

You do what is comfortable for you so it's not a problem at all! We're actually doing a Hawaii trip but most of our budget is going into it. We're doing our wedding for cheap (a lot of do it yourselves) so we already bought tickets and renting a cottage for the week in Hawaii. we used www.vrbo.com as well for our cottage and for a week stay, it comes out to be about $746 after taxes and fees.

OMG thank you for asking this. Everyone keeps asking us where we are going and we are like HOME haha This wedding has cost way more than we anticipated. It makes me feel kind of bad but Im glad we aren't alone. We seriously are thinking of just staying home... if we are lucky we might get a weekend trip to the coast. But for sure we can't afford my dream honeymoon in tahiti.... Now I know why those girls go on that show four weddings. haha they will do anything to get a honeymoon!

I believe in living within your means. If that's what you can afford to do right now then do it. Who says you can't save up and have a second honeymoon later? My BFF spent her honeymoon at nice resort in north Georgia called Chateau Elan then for their one year anniversary/second honeymoon they went to Hawaii. All that matters is that the two of you will be together. If you guys are like me and my FH we have fun no matter where we go. It's what you make of it.

@ Sara- I know what you mean!! lol I'M glad I'm not the only one! We don't mind doing a week in SD or even in NY,NY (though that gets pricey too)... though that vrbo.com seems to have some really good deals that just might convince me to pinch more pennies for Hawaii! Smiley winking

We're not even having our honeymoon at all, can't afford it. We're hoping to save up for a 1 year anniversary trip instead, but we'll see how it goes financially. Smiley smile

As stressful as weddings are, I feel like they are a weird twisted version of a vacation to begin...but certainly not a honeymoon.

I think that so long as you two are on your own for a night or two.... even if its just to sleep and watch tv, that's awesome.

What about a staycation? Look at the upside: go out to eat in your neighborhood... go shopping nearby and by something for your house.... and support your local economy.
