My fiance and I are planning our wedding ourselves. Paying for everything, buying and making just about everything. We have no extra money for our honeymoon which is pending right now. I thought it would be a great idea to have an OPTIONAL honeymoon jar fund set up at the bridal shower. If anyone donates (again OPTIONAL, im not forcing them to) they will be entered into a drawing to win a prize. Good idea or bad?

**editted: People would know before hand as I would put it on the invite. It wouldnt be a complete shock to them.

If I got an invite to a bridal shower where the couple was looking for money for an optional vacation, I wouldn’t attend. H works hard and we’re a one-income family so our vacations aren’t extravagant because we can’t afford that. I’m certainly not paying for someone else to take a vacation.

If she only has a a honeyfund, she shouldn’t let anyone throw her a shower. A shower is for physical gift giving.

If your family prefers to give money over gifts, they will do that without needing a labeled jar to put it in.

Nope. Don't do it. Do not ask anyone for money, it's very rude, tacky & gift grabby. Do not expect anyone to pay for your honeymoon. When you go on any other vacation, do ask or expect your friends/family to pay for it? Probably not. Well its the same thing. If you cant afford it yourself, you simply don't go. You go when you can afford it yourselves.

I would be pretty put off by this as a shower guest.

I tend to gift money as well, but in an envelope without being asked. I find it rude to have it so obvious that you are asking for it.

@oliviatarpey (instagram) Hi my fiancé and I bought our house almost 2 years ago in June ! So we really don’t need any gifts, no pots or bedding or pillows ! Plus were having a destination wedding as most of my family live in South America.

What we are planning on asking for is funds for the honeymoon. My plan is to split up all the places we want to go and stay and the adventures that we want and then create these as wish lists...which is added to our online wedding list.

So instead of just asking for money we are asking for experiences like:

    Flight upgrades

    Room upgrades

    Couples massage

Dinner for 2 on the beach

    Cocktails on a roof bar

    Cocktails on the beach

    Turtle sanctuary

    Hike up a mountain

    Snorcleing

    Etc...

    You get the idea

On most wedding lists you can create your own version of this and put a price on it so you can have items which are $20 $50 $80 $100 $200 and gets can buy one or more items this way you will also know exactly who gifted you what. Which means that when you get back you can send a photo of both of you sharing that memory/experience which was gifted to you and you can thank them with that pic Smiley smile

Have a look at my instagram @oliviatarpey where i will be sharing my wedding planning

Please remember that in some wedding sites they take a % of what has been gifted in cash so do ask and read up I’m not sure on wedding wire. And that’s why I’m using Prezola for the wedding list Smiley smile
