Honeymoon Over the 4th of July

FromOToP, on July 12, 2017 at 3:17 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 12

Hello everyone! Smiley smile My fiancé and I just decided to move our wedding date to June 30, 2018, exactly one year after we got engaged. By doing so, our honeymoon would be planned for the following week, which happens to be the 4th of July. We are hoping to do a Monday through Saturday honeymoon, but I am afraid that airline tickets will be extremely pricey with the impending holiday.

What are your experiences with airline tickets during the week of the 4th? Should we move our honeymoon to avoid the high prices? Smiley sad

A lot of it will be where you are travelling to and from for your honeymoon, but I would keep an eye on multiple airlines to see. I think you will see that price jump because of the holidays (demand = $$&dollarSmiley winking BUT that doesn't always mean there is extremely crazy prices all the time for every airline. If you really want that honeymoon date, just keep an eye on prices. I was like that since our honeymoon will start during Labor Day weekend. You can always use those airline websites that track airline prices for you.

Good luck and congratulations on your engagement! Smiley smile

Could you buy the tickets in advance to lower the cost?

With the fourth on a Wednesday I doubt it will make too much difference. It's just one day off right in the middle of the week, so I expect people will be less likely to travel than they would when it falls next to a weekend.

Date twin!! We are planning to leave for our honeymoon Sunday and return the following Saturday. The biggest thing we are doing to keep airfare down is looking early! Even though its a holiday that week if you book early it likely wont be to bad.

Also we will be looking at packages through our travel agents so that may be a good place to start as well. Good luck!

July 4th isnt a flying holiday at all, its a local BBQ type holiday. Ive never heard of alot of people flying for this holiday like they do for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and during winter/spring breaks. So i think youll be fine with prices. Also you can prob call a few travel agents to get prices on tickets if the airlines wont list them this far out.

I generally think of the 4th as more of a "driving" holiday (people going to the lake or camping) rather than a flying holiday where people see family no matter the distance. So I wouldn't expect tickets to be much more than usual, and booking ahead you should be able to get them for a good price. If your schedule is flexible you can also fly on odd days to get cheaper flights (ours is in October, but we are leaving on a Monday and coming back on a Wednesday since tickets were super cheap that way and our schedule is flexible).

Respectfully disagree with the people saying the 4th isn't a flying holiday. I saw multiple articles this year about how the number of Americans traveling for the 4th this past year was breaking all kinds of records. I tried so hard to find reasonably priced flights ANYWHERE with no luck (I was searching anywhere in Europe, Caribbean or Central America). I was literally checking every couple of days for about 4 months and never found anything that wasn't way overpriced.

My fault for waiting until March to start looking. Don't slack!! StPaulGal makes a good point though, if it is on a Wednesday that will hopefully mitigate the effect somewhat?

I just got home from our honeymoon June 25-July 4. If was cheaper to fly home July 4th than it was July 3rd or 5th. So I say don't worry about it.

I just went on my honeymoon over the 4th of July!! We loved it! We were gone from the 2nd to the 8th. I think it all depends on where you are going, but if you book your tickets ahead of time you should be great. I say go for it, if that's the week that works best for youSmiley smile I feel like our tickets were pretty normally priced.
