Honeymoon Photos - Part 2: Costa Rica!

Lisa, on August 22, 2022 at 9:38 AM Posted in Honeymoon 2 22
More pictures from my honeymoon! Part one (found here: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/honeymoon-photos-part-1-hawaii/70d466935e369221.html) covered Hawaii. This post covers our time in Costa Rica.

To get from Hawaii to Costa Rica, we took a red eye/overnight flight, which saved us the cost of a hotel room for one night.Honeymoon Photos - Part 2: Costa Rica! 1

We stayed at Dreams Las Mareas, which is around an hour and a half drive from the airport. This was our first time at an all-inclusive resort for both my husband and me.Honeymoon Photos - Part 2: Costa Rica! 2

This is such a beautiful country!! We booked an ocean view room, which had a stunning view.Honeymoon Photos - Part 2: Costa Rica! 3

The resort had put a few really cute surprises in our room for our honeymoon! They put a Honeymoon sign on our door, a cute message made of coffee beans on our bed, and also a basket of fruit, bottle of champagne, and a note to wish us a happy honeymoon. They also later dropped off a cupcake to our room.Honeymoon Photos - Part 2: Costa Rica! 6

The next day, we explored the resort, swam in the pool, went to the beach, and got some drinks and snacks at the bar. Later in the evening, there was a show going on near one of the pools, so we watched that for a few minutes. One thing I noticed about both Costa Rica and Hawaii - it gets dark fairly early as compared to back home this time of year!Honeymoon Photos - Part 2: Costa Rica! 9

A romantic breakfast was included as part of our room package! They sent way too much food, so we ended up saving leftovers for breakfast the next day: two plates of pancakes and bacon, two plates of omelets, a plate of fruit, a basket of mixed pastries, two mimosas, and a pot of coffee.Honeymoon Photos - Part 2: Costa Rica! 13

We opened our patio door to sit outside, but then went back in to a mix a couple drinks to bring out with us. After a minute or so, I heard a noise behind me, and there was a monkey sitting on the chair at our table!! The monkeys were my favorite part of this resort. They often climb around the outside of the buildings, visiting balconies and entering rooms if you're not careful (they know how to open patio doors if they're not locked). Once we got the monkey out of our room, they were fun to watch!Honeymoon Photos - Part 2: Costa Rica! 14

Spent some more time at the beach and the pool, and had my first experience at a swim-up bar! The resort looked gorgeous at night, and the grounds were very well cared for. Honeymoon Photos - Part 2: Costa Rica! 19

On what was supposed to be our last full day in Costa Rica, we did an all-day excursion that my husband signed us up for, called the Pure Adrenaline tour. It included zip lining, a rappel line, a rock climbing wall, a Tarzan swing, a hanging bridge, horseback riding, white water tubing, and a buffet lunch. Honeymoon Photos - Part 2: Costa Rica! 25

For dinner that night, we did a private romantic dinner on the beach! Salad, mushroom soup, beef tenderloin entree for me and chicken parmesan entree for my husband, and strawberry cheesecake for dessert.Honeymoon Photos - Part 2: Costa Rica! 28

Afterwards, we went back to our room and sat on the balcony with the bottle of champagne that we got on our first day there, and reminisced about the trip and our entire relationship. It was a beautiful way to spend the last night of our honeymoon. We also joked about extending our trip by a day or two. Turns out, we should have...

We ran into a bunch of flight issues (delays and cancellations for multiple reasons, plus rescheduling issues) trying to leave Costa Rica, so we ended up getting a bonus night in the country! The airport experience was less than ideal because of everything, but we made it work. One of our checked bags also didn't make it back when we finally landed at our final destination, but we had put a GPS tracker in it, so we were able to get the bag back within a couple hours.

Overall, the flight issues weren't a major issue, since we had built a few buffer days into our schedule. I'd much rather the delays occur at the end of the trip instead of the beginning or middle. The rest of the trip was SO worth it, and I'd absolutely recommend both resorts that we stayed at! Both locations were amazing, but my favorite was Costa Rica. My absolute favorite part of the trip was the person I traveled with.

My husband was the one who suggested we go to Costa Rica! I was indifferent about the idea until we started looking up photos and things to do in the area, then I was completely sold on it. Absolutely beautiful country, and it ended up being my favorite location to visit during this trip! Highly recommend!

My cousin and his wife honeymooned in Costa Rica right before covid struck and their photos and stories are amazing. I immediately added Costa Rica to the bucket list. Your photos and stories make me want to go tomorrow! Love your honeymoon mascot, MONKEYS! Sorry to hear you had flight issues seems like it happens to everyone lately at least one way. What a lovely and balanced trip you had, lots of adventures but also seems like some nice relaxing moments too. So fun to see!

Ooh, awesome that your cousin and his wife went to Costa Rica! Do you know where they went to? I was very pleasantly surprised with how much I liked it, I definitely recommend visiting there! And haha, yes, the monkeys! 🐒 I had heard about the monkeys ahead of time, and it became my goal to see them at least once while we were there. I wasn't exactly thrilled about them entering our hotel room, but we laughed about it once we got them out, and they were so cute to watch! During our excursion, our tour guide stopped the bus to point out a group of spider monkeys in the trees along the road, which was super neat to see. It was a very balanced trip - Hawaii was a bit more crazy, we did more activities on Oahu, and Costa Rica was more laid back, chill at the resort, with just the one excursion. It was also easier for handling the time changes by going furthest away, then working our way back towards our home time zone. The flight issues (while they were annoying and frustrating) honestly didn't upset us too much, since we built a few buffer days into our plan, and it didn't mess up any of our honeymoon plans. If it had happened early on in the trip, it would have been a little more upsetting, so if the issues were going to happen, I'm thankful that it was at the end!

They were there for almost a month so they moved around a bit but I can't remember exactly where they stayed. In the moment I woulda totally freaked out about the monkey in the room but a fun story to tell and photo to have. Very true about the travel delays thats a great way to look at it Smiley heart

Wow wow all of your pics from part1 too part 2 was absolutely fabulous the monkey was cute and then the excursions that you did. The grounds and pool side review was great too the blue water I love it. And my next vacation I will do all in exclusive resort. My favorite part of it is the romantic dinner on the beach but some times I heard some ppl who have gone before have said it also gets really cold at that time on the beach. Thank you for sharing with us your Honeymoon trip. Have a great life

Thank you!! The pictures truly don't do it justice, both were gorgeous places to visit! The monkeys were one of my absolute favorite parts of Costa Rica. Awesome that you're doing an all-inclusive resort for your next vacation! Where are you going? Have you ever done an all-inclusive resort before? This was our first time at one, and it was amazing! The weather was actually perfect on the beach during our romantic beach dinner. I get cold easily, and I was wearing a dress with thin straps and did not get cold. That might be a different story at another time of year though.

So exciting!! It's a wonderful resort, I hope you have a great time! The monkeys climb all over all of the buildings, so I'm sure they'll make a stop on your balcony lol. Just be sure to keep your sliding door locked when not outside - they know how to open the doors! Are you planning to do any excursions while you're there?
