Honeymoon possibly canceled

MK, on May 10, 2021 at 9:03 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 11

Future husband and I have booked and paid for a cruise for our honeymoon in September. Now, we're waiting on our cruise line to announce their restrictions and requirements upon their re-opening this summer. We don't want to go on the cruise if there are still heavy restrictions, or if we're required to get a vaccine to board. We don't want to spend so much money to not truly be able to enjoy ourselves and get the most out of the trip.

We think our next idea will be to find an all inclusive resort in Florida for our honeymoon.

What are your favorites? Where are the best places to go in Florida? If not Florida, where is another good honeymoon spot, preferably all inclusive?!

(This isn't a post to give me your opinions on covid restrictions/vaccines)

What restrictions would you consider "heavy?" Many resorts are requiring masks to be worn on the premises unless you're in your room or in the pool. My hubby and I didn't think we would like that so we are possibly opting for renting out an aibnb house with a pool instead.

I never thought of that idea! We went on a cruise last year before things shut down and had a blast just meeting people and celebrating. We just don't want to go and not be able to really be around people or be able to dance and socialize, we don't think it will be super enjoyable And being at sea in the sun, we don't want to have to wear a mask the whole time. I think they'll likely have these restrictions based off of other cruise lines, so we're just looking at other options!

Maybe take a look at the Bungalows in Florida. All-invlusive bungalow resort, but on the pricey side

I'm a Florida girl who LOVES HER STATE so I am super biased here, but there are so many great places here!

    My favorites:

St. Augustine. There is a beach, but I've never been to it. Note that the beaches on Florida's East Coast aren't as nice as those on the West (West is where you have those crystalline blue-turquoise waters). St. Augustine has great restaurants, historic activities, and has some super sweet romantic things (Google "love trees of St. Augustine." It's a fun little scavenger hunt.) Highly recommend taking a food tour here to explore and socialize (when we went, we were part of a small group, and everyone sits together so you get to mingle.)

Orlando, obviously. Endless things to do in Orlando. Theme parks, skydiving, quirky museums, restaurants and bars galore, escape rooms, the big ferris wheel. No beaches, but a straight shot to Cocoa Beach, 45 minutes (again, East Coast beaches are not quite as nice.)

Siesta Key area. Great beaches, very romantic.

The Keys. What you get here depends on the island - Key West is the most well-known, of course, but there are several keys (Islamorada is very highly recommended), so you'd have a choice (or you could experience a little of several if you wanted/if time allowed.)

Ah thank you so much! We are actually supposed to port in the keys for the day on the cruise, so we've talked about trying to find a resort there if we decide to cancel. These are all great. Thanks!

Also: all-inclusives are hard to find in Florida. The only ones I know of:

Little Palm Island in the Keys. Pricey.

Club Med Sandpiper Bay, which is near West Palm Beach - WPB is nice.

You can usually get packages that will cover meals at nicer resorts.

Maybe could you postpone it instead of a refund for some upgrades? I don’t know if that’s a thing.

I can't answer about Florida but there are many All Inclusive resorts within the Caribbean. Over the Fall/Winter we went to one in Aruba and one in Jamaica. Obviously you needed to wear it on plane, airport, transportation, etc but otherwise it was very relaxed. On the resort you only needed to wear it when going into a restaurant or if you needed to talk to the front desk. You were supposed to wear it when ordering at the bars but they didn't mind or enforce it. It also helps you are able to social distance much more due to it being outside/beach and less people traveling.

Not sure of all-inclusives down there, and the ladies above mentioned some great places in Florida...but don't forget about Tampa or St. Petersburg! I used to live in St. Pete and the beaches are nice, there's tons to do in the downtown area, they have the Don Cesar Resort plus many others that are on the water and just beautiful. It's a cute little spot in Florida if you want the real beachy feel.

St. Augustine is a really cool spot!

I think cruise restrictions are likely to go hand in hand with vaccinations - either vaccines will be required and once on board it will be just like pre-Covid life with no restrictions, or there will be at least some restrictions in place (possibly masking in high density public areas, change in food service) if people aren't vaccinated.
