Honeymoon Registry - Best Websites?

Cassie, on November 19, 2014 at 7:35 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 12

Hello!

My fiance and I are getting married next year, and we have already been living together for many years, so we don't really need any of the traditional items couples would need for a new house. I am going to set up a traditional registry for random things and upgrades, but want to jump on this trip registry thing as well.

I have looked into several sites, so I know they all seem to charge a fee. Does anyone have any experience or advice you could share on which sites are best? Do any of them charge less than the others and is the money just pooled or does it automatically buy the item or experience? Thank you so much, ladies!

Hello, my name is Kelly Burnett and I am owner and travel expert of Travel by Kelly. First off, Congrats on your engagement. It has always bothered me that these sites charge fees, so I came up with my own system for my clients. I don't know if your using a travel agent but how I work it with my engaged couples for a bridal registry is that I have them registered directly with my agency. For instance they would say they are registered with Macy's, bed bath, Travel by Kelly etc. Their guests can then email and call me for a gift certificate. It is more personal and they feel they are giving a gift and not just money towards a honeymoon. They can even purchase that special candlelight dinner on the beach, or catamaran cruise that you both would love. People enjoy feeling part of your special time and that they gave you something you really wanted. Sometimes this can be a touchy subject and many people have different opinions. Because of the way I do it, there are no extra fees like what you get on a website, so my client gets dollar for dollar what they received from their guests, and your guests don't incur any fees. Their purchased gift certificate is then sent to them through email or mail , that way the guest can present it in a card. I hope this helps a little. Your welcome to reach me at 401-714-6024 or email me at **************@*****.*** with any questions or help planning your honeymoon etc. Please know that it costs nothing more for you to use my travel services and it would be my pleasure. Please check me out here on wedding wire. Good luck with all your planning and I hope to hear from you. Thank you, Kelly

    BE WARNED:

This subject can be extremely touchy on WW and there is a good chance you'll get bombarded with anit-honeymoon registry sentiments. Run. Runaway now.

What Ashley said. All honeymoon registries are just asking your guests for cash to fund a vacation. A lot of us have been living with our FH/FWs for a long time, it isn't unique. Just pass on it, avoid being tacky and keep your registry small. People will get the hint.

I agree, I don't care for them. One thing that worked for me was just to talk a lot about how excited I was for my fabulous honeymoon! It got the message across. Two people actually gifted us in Euros so we could spend the money in Greece!

I am using wanderable.com. It seems like an easier to setup and there isn't a huge fee.

We used honeyfund.com. Mind you we also did an online registry at Amazon and an traditional registry at BBB as to accommodate all different types of guests. There was no fee unless our guests provided a credit card, and then only traditional pay pal fees to process the transaction. We set it up so we incurred the fees when we accepted the gift so the guest didn't have to pay anything. The main reason we selected honeyfund was because it was simple, yes you can pay to upgrade ($20 I think if you want it to look pretty) but it was easy to pick from their suggestions for free. Our guests also had the option to write us a check and print out a card from the website should they have picked something specific they wanted to gift towards (i.e. furniture, dishes, garden, home maint etc) they could then mail the cash/check to us or bring it to the wedding, and this of course cost them nothing!

Please do not do a honeymoon registry. Asking your guests for money is rude. They are probably inclined to give you a cash gift at your wedding anyway, which you can choose to use as you wish. But please do not tell people how to spend their money. Also, why should you guests pay for your vacation when they may not be able to even pay for one of their own?

Don't use them. They charge a fee. Have a small registry and most people will give you money instead.

There is no reason for a honeymoon fund account. They charge a fee. Whereas if you just do a small registry, people will give cash and you don't have to lose the fee and people against those types of websites won't make comments about you because of it. I don't have anything against them but I would never use them. I don't see the point. People will give you cash if they want to give you cash. You will not receive any actual gifts at the wedding. That's what the shower is for. But there isn't any need to make a website for it because people will just give you a card with money that day, anyways.

Thank you everyone who answered my question about what honeymoon registries they used! I appreciate your time and assistance! While I did not ask about whether or not I should do a honeymoon registry (or if it was tacky, in bad taste, etc), I do understand the inclination to share random opinions on a public forum. Noted that I will limit this type of discussion to my friends and family from now on, lol. Thanks to everyone who helped again!

We are thinking of using the honeyfund.com, they have the least amount of fees and plenty of free options for the guests too. I found it funny when I stumbled on this thread of the strong opinion against a honeyfund but how having small registry and expecting cash instead is totally okay. Seems funny to me. I think the guests will appreciate more to see how their honeyfund gift was used. We plan to include pictures from our honeymoon when thanking our guests for honeyfund gifts. Most of our friends and family know that we love to travel and live in a really small space so I think that they would understand if we chose to do a honeyfund instead of going the traditional route.
