HONEYMOON! Sandals Barbados, anyone?

Kinsey, on May 20, 2015 at 6:49 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 20

I posted awhile back about my honeymoon dilemma. The resort we originally picked out (Sandals Negril) scheduled construction during our stay and changed our room level so we had to swap. One of my FH's requests was a Sandals honeymoon so we chose Barbados.

I was able to get a GREAT deal on Sandals Barbados because of the inconvenience. Has anyone stayed here yet or heard anything about it from someone they know?

It JUST opened in January so the reviews are pretty limited.

THAT'S WHERE WE ARE GOING!! Sorry for yelling lol. I'm just a little excited. I was a little nervous as well with the lack of reviews. We leave on Monday. I will let you know as soon as we get back.

OMG that is so exciting!! Definitely let me know! I am curious to see if they have any fire-pits and how the beach "really is" because some reviews said it is super rough. Do you have any excursions planned?

Not yet. I'm usually the type that doesn't plan that far in advance. I'm more the type to wake up and decide what I want to do that day. The only thing I have already scheduled is dinner on the beach for our last night there.

BUMP. We are booked at Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica and we went to Sandals Ochi last year but I've been debating about changing to Barbados.... I'd love to know how it was @Megan!

I feel like the only person who is going to a resort that isn't Sandals, Couples, or Secrets.

We are going to Barbados starting the 17th and we are staying at The Crane. The Sandals resort was a option bUT we chose the Crane based on the location and history.

Purple Kitten where are you going? I am looking at couples right now. It is the cheapest but still had good reviews.

PK, I'm not going to one of those resorts either. There is a Sandals in Antigua but I chose to go with a smaller resort on the island called Galley Bay.

We've been to one of the ones in Jamaica - last July. It was the Grand Rose Hall. We loved it so much that we didn't even leave the property the whole time we were there!

Best part was when someone came up to us at the pool and asked us if we wanted snacks because there were snacks on the beach. We asked what they had for snacks and they were like, "We grilled some lobster tails. Do you want some?!"

Is it all inclusive? Their website is hard to navigate.

Yes, it's all-inclusive. And yes, their website's UX leaves much to be desired. Look them up on Tripadvisor.com instead.

@PurpleKitten - we went to that Iberostar and loved it! They have the most adorable little "Coati" animals that are so cute! The FH's only request was Sandals but I think there are so many other AMAZING places. We are basically paying extra for the Brand but oh well!

OMG, we love the Coati! (We stayed at the Maya in 2012).

One of the babies stole my nachos, though. I looked away for a second and I turned back and he was standing on them!

OH MY GOD! It was amazing! I was going to post a whole discussion about it (BAH? lol).

It was the first time at a Sandals for both DH and I. Every staff member was super sweet and accommodating. The food was to die for. The room was beautiful. Since they just switched over to a Sandals, everything is new and up to date. Granite and tile in the bathroom. Rainfall shower head. Smart tv and iPhone dock/alarm clock/radio. We had a soaking tub on the balcony.

I don't know if it was just the time of year or because it's a newer resort, but there weren't an overwhelming amount of people there. It was nice to not have to fight for space around the pool. The only place that you feel a little crowded is the swim up bar. Obviously, it's a popular spot.

The ocean was a little rough. Most days the red flag was up. We managed one day of swimming in the ocean when it was pretty calm.

The rainy season there is June through September. We had a couple 'rainy' days. It would be sunny and warm one minute and then it would sprinkle for like 5 minutes. Our last day there was overcast and supposed to be very stormy. We were supposed to have a candlelit dinner on the beach. It ended up getting cancelled due to the weather. If you choose to do that (it's an additional fee), do it in the middle of the week so you have days for them to reschedule.

There aren't as many excursions at Barbados as listed for the other resorts. We just wanted a week of relaxing and sunbathing so that was fine by us. We did go for a walk off the resort. You don't have to worry about safety or anything like that. Apparently, DH looks like a huge stoner (even though he has never smoked in his life). He had a couple people come up to him and ask if he wanted any weed. He said "no thank you" and that was that. They didn't keep pushing it or try to get anything out of us.

How exciting! I am so relieved now that someone "I know" has been haha. Was there any restaurant that was your favorite or anything we have to do while in Barbados that you would recommend?

@Kinsey --I stayed at the Iberostar Grand Parasio and it was AMAZING! Service & food were outstanding! I had one of the best oceanfront rooms I have ever stayed in! When are you looking to travel? We have free upgrades to oceanview/oceanfront right now for stay through 10/31 at the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall! Let me know if you need any help! *******@*******.***
