Honeymoon: Travel Agent vs Self

Sara, on July 16, 2018 at 3:31 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 17

Would you guys suggest using a travel agent to book a honeymoon, or just do it online ourselves? We want to get the best deal for our money, and we want to be able to do fun things...but don't want to get ripped off in the process. We want all-inclusive and adult only resorts as well.

We've looked online at some places, but we are getting frustrated trying to compare prices, and each time you go on a different site, the cookies on the web browser change the prices because we've visited so many travel websites. Ugh.

Travel agent 100%..........they are free, they get you the best deals (even some things you can't find online), they price match if you do your own research, and if anything bad happens or gets cancelled (hurricane, flights cancelled or missed, weather issues, etc.) the travel agent will take care of you and fix everything!

We were going to book our honeymoon ourselves but if someone else will do all of the work for you, at no cost to you, why not?

My experience with travel agents is that they are not free and do charge. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't use one because the cost savings overall my outweigh using one. And I agree that it is good to have a relationship with someone to help if things get sticky. My parents a relationship with an agent that I mooch off of for things like this.

We booked our all inclusive honeymoon without an agent. We did flights with miles and loads of research and reading reviews and then price comparisons on the resorts websites directly (as opposed to Expedia, etc.) to find a resort we were excited about, had good reviews, and was affordable. But we aren't looking for day trips or excursions, so doing it ourselves was easiest and cheapest for us.

    Definitely do it yourself.
My fiancee and I booked our flight and hotel ourselves and it wasnt difficult at all. Just like we would go on vacation. And on notes to hotel, I put celebrating honeymoon.

It was a part of the fun, researching what we wanted better and next thing to do is excursions.

I prefer to book vacations myself, especially when I have time to book them and do my research!

I was completely overwhelmed with planning our honeymoon at first, so I contacted a couple travel agents via email and received a few quotes. Once I got into the groove, I actually found better pricing myself, so I did it myself.

Booking through a travel agent is not free and they certainly do not provide the best deal out there. IF you don't care about blowing 10k for a week somewhere - then yes sure - get pampered. But if you are on a budget... you can and absolutely will get the best deal online when you book on your own.

Cousin used an agent, spent $6k on an all inclusive resort in Mexico. From NJ... I googled her resort d even though it was pricey with direct flight for that time of year it was about $3k.... okay they did massages and an excursion... $600 more... BUT getting ripped off with $6,000! please... agent took advantage of them or if didnt know any better - then it's a really lousy agent

I have multiple examples of this nature. Yes it will be a lot of work and research but if you invest enough time - you will absolutely have a grand vacation for a lot less money. As someone who books travel often, I can say make sure to read the fine print, do not go for low cost airlines and insure the trip through a reputable insurer. I sometimes steer away from those rules but for a honeymoon - you want as few surprises as possible. That's my 2 cents! Smiley winking Have fun planning!

I've never used a travel agent so no tips or opinions on that, but just wanted to stop in to recommend using an "incognito" browser window when you're doing your research to avoid the cookie issue

Travel agents are great if you don’t know where to go and who to book with, which sounds like the boat you’re in! I booked with a friend’s sister who is a travel agent but i didn’t need her per se - in fact, I had to actually tell her that I had a lower price for the cruise I had selected. So in my case, with my knowledge about Royal Caribbean cruises and my crown and anchor membership it wasn’t really worth it - although she said she’ll give us a gift on board which will be nice!

We booked ours ourselves. We travel a ton so it was pretty easy for us to just go in and do it ourselves. I don't think travel agents save you any money and I've heard of a lot of people getting the wrong information from their travel agents because they were using out dated information or didn't do their recent.

I did it my self. We leave the Thursday after our wedding for our honeymoon. We are going to New York. And got 2 round trip tickets for 450. I went to Travelocity, I checked Sunday and it was 500-600 then the same Tuesday. Then I checked on a Wednesday and found the lowest prices on that site.

Use TripMasters.com if going international!!! It made our trip super easy to plan and everything went so smoothly! You can choose their pre-planned stuff and then customize it for you or customize it from thr beginning...keeps everything on the same page while you plan and switch things around...seriously it is now our go-to for planning international stuff!
And, we got a fabulous deal, much cheaper than if I had tried to book thing separately or using expedia etc.

We booked with an agent. There are so many options that we were overwhelmed and we liked the fact that they specialized in the area that we were going so they had actually been to the resorts that we were interested in and helped us narrow it down. We also like the fact that if we have issues when we get there, we have someone to contact that can help us out - they told us that if we have an issue with our room they can assist in getting us moved. They also offer other things like private transportation or excursions that we might splurge on if we can. We did book our own flights with miles.

It depends on how much you like planning. personally, i am a planner. my wedding is the fourth that I've planned in recent years, and I plan trips with our "squad" yearly, so planning the honeymoon myself was an easy choice
