Honeymoon under $1,000?

Claire, on March 11, 2016 at 8:07 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 16

My fiance and I are looking into fun honeymoon alternatives to the expensive beachy ones. We live in the Midwest and are hoping to spend 4-5 days somewhere within driving distance. Any creative ideas? So far we've looked into renting a cabin and hiking.. (our wedding is at the end of October) Thanks in advance for your ideas Smiley smile

    If you're close...

I love mountain princeton hot springs in colorado. A night runs around $125 I think for a weekday night and includes two passes to the hot springs. They have a river that runs through the place where you can sit in a river with natural hot springs that come up. They also have soaking pools and whatnot as well. It nearby to some great hiking as well.

Also este park in colorado is a great place to visit.

We had a lovely getaway weekend there last year.

Friends of mine went to Gatlinburg, TN in the smokey mountains for their honeymoon, and they really enjoyed it!

We're driving to Asheville, NC and getting a cabin there for a few days! So excited, I know a lot of people who have gone there and they have all loved it.

Yes, where in the Midwest and what does "within driving distance" mean to you? 8 hours or less by car?

If it needs to be within 4-5 hours we need to know where in Midwest Smiley smile

I would recommend door county Wisconsin, lots of cute B&Bs or Duluth/gooseberry falls in MN

    1) Your honeymoon doesn't have to be right after your wedding. We took ours in November.

    2) A little help on where you were located and how far you want to drive would be helpful as well?

    3) The cabin and hiking sounds nice, I would love to go to a cabin in Tahoe (driving distance for us)...hmm..maybe hubby and I will do that for our anniversary/babymoon Smiley smile

Oh the website for princeton hot springs in colorado looks really neat!

We're in the south eastern corner of South Dakota. I'd like to keep the drive under 8hrs..

Duluth MN, Colorado, or Montana would be my suggestions.

FH and I are renting our own beautiful, serene cabin for three nights in Virginia within walking distance to hiking trails, state parks, and rivers for around 430$. Seriously something to look into if something that simple would be your ideal honeymoon.

If you're in the northern part of the Midwest, maybe somewhere along Lake Michigan? Traverse City, Milwaukee, Door County, etc. be sure to check out AirBNB too- I've found some really cool places to stay in for a steal while traveling, and I've yet to have a bad experience!

If you are near Ohio, I suggest Hocking Hills. There are lots of hiking trails and you can rent a small cabin without spending too much.

I would suggest Northern Michigan (if that's in driving distance for you) it's absolutely stunning in the fall. Maybe Traverse City or Mackinaw City and island.

Don't forget... food (try to get a room with a full kitchen), gas, and activities can be expensive. We rented a boring ugly room for $120 a night, 5 days and ended up spending well over $1000 when all was said and done. I should add we ended up with a free upgrade for the room thank god we would have been miserable.
