Honeymoon Wishes

m, on August 31, 2016 at 2:02 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 28

I set one up because my cousin did for her wedding and recommended it. We just recieved $1000 in gifts from a friend. Do they charge for us to transfer this money to our bank account? Has anyone used this registry before?

No. no. no. We didn't sign up for them because they are tacky and rude.

This is something you should have looked into prior to signing up for one.

Honeyfunds are a business, so yes they are going to take a cut for the service they are providing. That is one of many many reasons they are frowned upon.

They probably do to cover their service.

There is a search feature that will give you all of the answers you are looking for including the fact that Honeyfunds are VERY frowned upon on WW. Get ready to hear some very strong opinions on this.

Someone nice gifted you $1000, only after service fees, they really only gave you $700. Bummer.

Definitely don't register for money or honeymoons.... its rude.

Didn't realize they were tacky honestly. I didn't even want a registry but people said that would show that I just wanted checks for the wedding. I didn't even put out that I had a registry.

That is a 30% handling fee and would be unheard of. Handling fees are closer to 3-4%

Yeah, I know. Sarcasm is a thing. Still money she won't be getting that her kind guest thought they were giving her...

Yes, Honeymoon Wishes charges you a service fee. You also can only transfer funds 3 times, so be careful about your timing.

So you are okay with your guest having to pay a 7.5% service fee? That means they had to PAY $75 to give you money. Eww. But you know as along as you got the full $1000 all is good right? eta: words

From my understanding, yes they will and it's usually like 3-5% (I think). One of the many reasons NOT to do honeyfunds of any kind. People will gift money if they want to gift money, no need for a registry to tell them to do so. Unfortunately, that very generous guest just paid $30-$50 dollars to the company you did your registry through, and probably without even realizing that all that money was not going to you. Take this as a life lesson, transfer that money out, and take down the registry so that any other generous monetary gifts that you receive will go to you and FH and ONLY you and FH.

Edit: Just saw your update. I would totally NOT be ok with my guest having to pay MY registry company and EXTRA $75 just because I decided to do a honeymoon registry instead of no registry at all. If you didn't want to make it seem like you were just ask for money, you should have done a small gift registry. A honeymoon registry makes it MORE obvious that all you want as gifts is money!

Here's the thing. Yes, I'd rather give the couple what they want. But short of riding up to their wedding on Flipper, I can't give them a swim-with-the-dolphins excursion. I can write a check, though- and they'll get every penny.

Yep, to MrsMcCoy, aside from it being tacky, it's deceptive. Your guests think they're giving you a swim with dolphins, but it just goes to your account.

Just don't have any registries, people who want to give you a gift will give you cash/checks.

".......but people said that would show that I just wanted checks for the wedding."

NEWSFLASH! Most adults give cash/checks in envelopes at the wedding!

Imagine if you didn't have a honeyfund that took money out of your gift and the guests got to give you the WHOLE amount just to you. Now you're paying fees to a third party to get SOME of your wedding gift.

    Yes they will charge you.

That's annoying for them then. They had to pay EVEN MORE than 1000 dollars ad you only saw some of it.

Also, you don't give gifts like swimming. You still just get a check. But this check has a fee....

7.5%?! That is one of the highest ones I've ever heard of.

That is why you don't do them.

    Lesson learned.
