Honeymoon with pets?

Tina L., on May 15, 2015 at 1:58 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 11

Debating on bringing our dog along with us on our HM. We would love for him to come with but he has separation anxiety and would probably destroy the hotel room and i think we would miss him too much to leave him at a kennel back at home is there any hotels that have doggy day care? Sorry if this seems like a dumb ?

Not dumb at all! My FH has been looking for pet friendly honeymoon cabins since our engagement! I know this sounds crazy, but when you leave your pup alone have you tried maybe a Benadryl or something of the like? Our vet actually told us to try it after and unfortunate thunderstorm incident, it worked wonders and he doesn't mind when we leave him now! (We have since stopped medicating him, he knows to just lay down and relax.) With that said, would it be possible to find pet friendly activities that could get your pup worn out in the event of having to leave him alone for dinner or some alone time?

I hope you find a solution!

We're bringing our pup with us on our honeymoon. I couldn't imagine spending 2 weeks without him. We're going to try to find a bunch of dog-friendly activities to do and go on runs every morning to tire him out before we go anywhere.. but other than that he'll be back at the condo. Also, if you can't find a doggy daycare in a hotel, maybe you could find a pet-sitter wherever you're going to watch him while you're away.

I wish we brought our dogs with us. I feel like I was the one having separation anxiety. We were on a beautiful island for 9 days and I wanted to go home by day 4. I mean I definitely enjoyed my honeymoon but I missed my pups!

Just remember that depending on where you're going you may not be able to bring your dog, most islands, hawaii, etc don't allow pets to be brought and if you're flying and you're dog is too big to fit under your seat he needs to go to cargo and there has been a million horror stories about pets dying from being in cargo too long and the pressure/weather changes. If you're going to be driving it could work...I've never heard of a hotel with an actual doggie day care but I know disney has an offsite doggie day care you can leave your dog all day and visit him whenever you want (their hotels don't allow pets) so they also have cameras that you can watch your dog in all day.

I think the honeymoon is the speciality time for both of you. If you dont mind, you need to puts your dog at the pet shop which will caring your dog, so you no need to worried about your dog and you have much time for your honeymoon fully with your partnerlife.

I wish we could bring our dogs with us too. FH wanted to find a way to do this but we are honeymooning in Antigua, it just isn't possible. They will be in doggy day care all week but they do have cameras in their "rooms" so we will be able to watch live feed of them when they aren't outside Smiley smile

Check out dogvacay.com it's a sit for pets like care.com is for children. We found a sitter on there (they have reviews, you booking and pay through the site which covers insurance for the sitter) that our furbaby stayed with wed-sat of our wedding. Then we picked him up and he stayed with my dad sun-sun while on our honeymoon.

Ugh and as I submitted this the lady we were using is booked up. Boo, guess he will be coming with us.

We have a wedding to go to next weekend and I'm using the site again to find someone actually in my area (previously used was a different area). however the hotel we are staying at is pet friendly. I called and they have companies they recommend that will actually come and stay with your pet though. We would only need this for Saturday, so not sure what we will be doing next weekend with him yet. The dogvacay is nice because it's not actual boarding it's someone just watching your pet in their home.

Depends where you are honeymooning. When FH and I went to Tahoe we brought the dog, and dropped her at daycare before hitting the slopes. On the honeymoon though I wouldn't want to worry about her. Is there a friend or family member that wouldn't mind dogsitting? How long are you planning to honeymoon? There are also boarding options other than kennels (which indeed are depressing). We board our dog with a business that has a fenced in piece of property north of SF where the dogs get lots of outside time. You could also check out dogvacay.com, though I've never tried it myself.

I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one that wants to do this!!! We are going to key west. From what I hear it's a dog friendly town!
